Rape of Nanking
To break the spirit of Chinese resistance the Japanese General Matsui Iwane ordered that the city of Nanking to be destroyed most of the city was burned and the took vast amounts of prisoner and killed many more also they raped at least 20,000 women and girls of all ages most killed in the act this was really devastating to the Chinese and all thus was done out of humiliation. -

German Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg was an attack tactic used by the Germans that would disorganize the enemy troops by using mobile forces and a lot of fire power. its so successful that it resulted in short military campaigns which saved human lives. why did the Germans use this attack? they used this attack because it had a very high success rate. As a result a chain of concentration camps were meant to hold the Jewish people and many raids happened killing and taking the Jewish people. this means the victory in Europe this happened because our allies tried the hardest and had the best plans in place and the Germans had to surrender in towns all over this meant the end of the fighting in Europe and meant that the war was finally coming to an end. -
Liberation of concentration camps/end of war
as the war was ending the allies moved through different countries and started finding concentration camps with starving people that looked like skeletons the quickly shut down the camps and gave all the people food and freed them the first camp liberated was Majdanek near Lublin the Germans quickly tried to hide the murder but they didn't do a good job. -
Battle of the Bulge
on this day Hitler made a surprise Blitzkrieg attack to try and split the allied troops this caught the Americans off guard so they fought desperately to try and stop the hundreds of enemy troops but the enemies pushed farther and farther into the allied territory which lead them to take over on a large bulge. This lead to Hitlers down fall. -
Battle of iwo jima
This was an attack against the Japanese by the u.s marines that took part on the island of iwo jima that had 3 Japanese air bases that could be used to attack japan this was said to be one of the most brutal attacks of the war that lasted five weeks but since japan was left wounded from other attacks they could not defend the island this helped us a great amount because we had the top of the hill. -
Battle of Okinawa
This was one of the battles that not a lot of people talk about even though it was one of the biggest water landings in the war are allies landed on the beach of Okinawa only to encounter 155 000 Japanese troops they did this because it was an easy flight to Japanese home land and would have given us a major advantage -
Dropping the first atomic Bomb
The u.s dropped two bombs one on Hiroshima and one on Nagasaki this first bomb was dropped and wiped out 90% of all life leaving 80 000 people and later more would die of radiation. 3 days later the dropped the second bomb killing 40 000 people this was done to stop the war and prove a point this was tragic but it had to be done. -
VJ day
VJ stands for victory over japan this was declared after japan surrendered they did this because of how hurt there economy was after we dropped the bombs they could not fight anymore and they were scared of us this was the second last thing that happened before we won the war this set us up for victory
