Ricardo Eliecer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto was born in Parral, a city in central-southern Chile, and he was later to be known as Pablo Neruda around the world. -
SCHOOL
Neruda entered the Temuco School for Men, where he completed high school. -
FIRST PUBLICATION
The Temuco newspaper, La Mañana, published an article entitled “Entusiasmo y perseverancia” written by Neftalí Reyes. This was the poet's first publication. -
PSEUDONYM
He started signing his work under the pseudonym Pablo Neruda. -
FIRST PRIZE
He earned first prize for poetry in the Temuco Spring Festival. He graduated from the Temuco School for Men with a degree in humanities. -

The first edition of "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair" was published by Editorial Nascimento in Santiago, Chile. -

He became director and editor of the magazine Caballo de Bastos, published in Santiago, Chile. -

He traveled to China. He toured Kowloon, Hong Kong and Shanghai. He then traveled to Japan and to Singapore. -

He met Federico García Lorca in Pablo Rojas Paz's house, marking the beginning of a close friendship. -
HIS THIRD WIFE AND LOVE POEMS
A private edition of 300 copies of One Hundred Love Sonnets was printed in the Editorial Universitaria in Santiago, Chile. This is one of Neruda's greatest collections of love poems, which celebrates the maximum expression of his love with Matilde Urrutia, his third wife and the most important of his muses. -
ROMEO AND JULIET ADAPTATION
His translation and adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare was published by Editorial Losada, Buenos Aires. -
DEATH DATE
He died at 20:30 pm at Clínica Santa Maria in Santiago.
