OHealth - Goal Setting

By Caleb17
  • Considerations for a health plan

When considering the creation of a health plan, six things should be defined, “Who is involved? What do I want to accomplish?
 Identify a location.
 Establish a time frame.
 Identify requirements and constraints.
Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of
accomplishing the goal” (pg. 4, Preparing to Develop A Plan). As well as if the goal is achievable and realistic.
  • Who/What

What I want to accomplish is to strengthen my endurance when running or jogging. I want to be able to to jog for at least 45 minutes.
Only I will be involved, unless I choose to jog with a friend.
  • Where/When

I’m focusing on only jogging around Hilliard on the trails. It’ll be throughout the next month, taking place twice a week. I’ll also record this every time I jog during those days, in hopes it also motivates me to keep going. This is similar to the text, “When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal” (pg. 5, Preparing to Develop a Plan).
  • Why

Why: I want to do this to increase my endurance when jogging and running. The only risk I have is that my lungs tend to hurt or “feel frozen” despite breathing properly. A strength I have is that I do have some moderate endurance and a lot of time to jog, and a good place to do so. This also proves it’s realistic, as provided by the text “To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work“ (pg. 5)
  • Which

Which: All I need is comfortable jogging clothes like gym shorts or sweats and a short sleeve shirt. As well as decent weather and time to set aside to jog or walk per day.
