  • The South Carolina Expedition and Protest of 1828

    A debate for who had power. The Supreme Court or the States
  • Tariff of 1828 (Tariff of abomination)

    Taxes all foreign goods, to boost the sales of US products and protect Northern manufactures from cheap British goods. Southerners were upset because there was taxes on farming equipment and farmers use these things every single day.
  • Eaton Affair

    U.S scandal involving Jackson's Cabinet and their wives.
  • Ordinance of Nullification

    Declared the Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 unconstitutional, and thereby null and void.
  • Nullification Proclamation

    President Andrew Jackson issued a proclamation to the people of South Carolina that disputed a states' right to nullify a federal law.
  • The Compromise Tariff

    Proposed by Henry Clay. Gradually lowered the tarif rates over next 10 years. The tariff ended the nullifcation Crisis.
  • Force Act

    It authorized the president to use whatever force he deemed necessary to enforce federal tariffs.
