New Swedan is Found!
In 1638, Traders founded New Sweden on the lower
Delaware River. New Sweden had a dual economy of fur trading with
the Indians and grain farming by the colonists. In September 1655, Peter Stuyvesant, the Dutch governor, appeared with several warships which made the Swedish commander surrender.
