Native American Rights

  • Dawes Act

The General Allotment Act, or, as it later came to be known, the Dawes Act, was intended to give Native Americans land ownership and rights to education. It did not give them full citizenship, and was only open to them if they leave their culture behind to "assimilate" into one in which they would be treated as "second class citizens" (despite their being here first).
  • Congress makes it possible, but not garunteed, for citizen to be granted to Native American WWI veterans.

  • Indian Citizenship Act

Citizenship is granted to Native Americans born in the United States.
