  • General Armstrong Custer and the 7th Calvalry

    went into subdue them but he foolishly attacked a force of 2500 with only 250 in Montana and was wiped out
    The Native American victory was short I lived though as more soldier were sent into the area

  • The Sand Creek Massacre

    November 29, 1864, a peaceful band of southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Native American are massacre by Colonel John Chivington’s Colorado volunteer
    The United States Army killed and mutilated an estimated 70-500 native Americans, about ⅔ of them were women and children
  • The Great Sioux 1868 Treaty

    aka. Treaty of Fort Laramie
    Established the Sioux reservation
    Vastly lead to reduction in Native American land
    Gold was found in the black hills
  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    The Treaty of Fort Laramie created a large Sioux reservation
    In 1874 George Custer led a “scientific” expedition into the Black Hills of South Dakota and claimed he discovered gold.

  • The Land Acts - Dawes Severalty Act of 1887

    1887 congress passed this act to break up the reservations and provide more land to U.S settlers
    Native American were given 160 acres of land to farm and if they worked 25 years they were given citizenship
    The goal was to assimilate the Native Americans
