My Technology Highlights

  • Call Waiting

I loved when my parents were able to get call waiting. This meant I could talk to my friends without a time limit being set on the phone call because people could "buzz" in and my parents wouldn't miss a phone call.
  • Microsoft Power Point

The first time I remember Power Point being utilized in school was my freshmen year of high school. Until this point in my education, everything was placed on an overhead projector on a transparency. It seemed as if Power Point projects were also made a staple of the curriculum as well. I could count on almost every class having a Power Point presentation due as a graded assignment.
  • AIM (AOL Instant Messanger)

    AIM (AOL Instant Messanger)
AIM introduced me to a new way to communicate with my friends during high school. I would spend hours talking (I mean typing) to my friends at night after my parents went to bed. I also personally feel, cyber bullying started here for my generation.

  • Myspace

    Myspace
Prior to Myspace, I had a Xanga account where I could openly journal and my friends could read about it. Myspace allowed me to post pictures, blog about what was going on in my life, write on my friends wall, and send private messages to friends. I was also able to change my background and add a playlist of songs to my Myspace page that represented my individuality and I liked that self expression. I believe this was a source of cyber bullying.

  • USB Flash Drives

    USB Flash Drives
Until I discovered Flash Drives, I used floppy disc to save school papers and presentations. Flash Drives allowed for more information to be stored and were able to be carried so conveniently without being damaged. I believe I discovered Flash Drives after they had already been out for a while. (I was behind the ball on this so to speak).

  • Google

    Google
My junior year of high school is when I really remember using Google to search the Internet. Prior to Google, I used Yahoo to search the internet. Google seemed to be more user friendly with more relevant search results.

  • MP3 Player/ iPod

    MP3 Player/ iPod
I bought my first MP3 player, which was a blue iPod nano, my senior year of high school. Prior to MP3 players, I had a massive collection of CD's from bands and artist, as well as burnt CD's with a plethora of music I enjoyed. MP3 players made it possible to have all the music I enjoyed at my fingers tips in one location. Amazing! I remember purchasing my iPod nano for track season.

  • Facebook

    Facebook
In high school I hated that you needed a college email for Facebook because my boyfriend was in college and I couldn't see anything on his Facebook page. Facebook changed how I would and continue to connect with people and keep in contact with people. Today, I wouldn't know what would be going on in some of my friends lives if it wasn't for Facebook. Life is busy and Facebook makes staying connected a little bit easier.

  • DVD's

    DVD's
Christmas of 2007 is the first time I remember my parents having to buy a DVD instead of a VHS. One of my little brothers collected The Land Before Time movies and in 2007 he owned all 12 movies in the series on VHS, but that Christmas my parents had to get the 13th movie on DVD.

  • iPhone

    iPhone
I was able to get the iPhone 3Gs when it came out. I can honestly say this changed my life. I essentially had a computer at my finger tips and could play games with ease. I was never into any type of gaming system but this was it for me!

  • DVR

I was behind the ball, so to speak, when getting a DVR. In high school, my parents said having a DVR was to expensive and during my college years I lived in the dorms so having a DVR was not an option. When I got my first apartment in 2010, a DVR was a must for me. I am a TV show junkie and having a DVR allowed me to never miss an episode of my favorite shows.
