My Reading Timeline

  • My Mom Got Us Hooked On Phonics

My Mom Got Us Hooked On Phonics
My mom always said the most important thing we needed to know was how to read. She got Hooked On Phonics for my sister, brother and me before any of us started school. My mom says I liked the videos and pretended to read the books.
  • My Sister Started Kindergarten

    My Sister Started Kindergarten
When Jeramya started school, my mom would have her practice reading to me. My sister would sit behind me and let me hold the books while she read the words. And she would let me say the words I knew. We read a lot of Dr. Seuss.
  • My Brother Hates Reading

    My Brother Hates Reading
When Trae started kindergarten, he liked it at first. But he hated to read. He wouldn't tell mom though. He told me and when he was supposed to read something, I would read it to him or at least I would make up the story. Mom knew, but she let me help my brother. Our favorite book to read was Curious George.
  • It Was Finally My Turn

    It Was Finally My Turn
When I started kindergarten I was so happy. But after a little while, I started to get bored. My teacher and mom talked and my teacher started to let me read 1st Grade books. My favorite was If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. My mom gave me that book for my birthday and I read it over and over.
  • I Didn't Really Like Reading

When I started the first grade, I didn't like to read. The books that my teacher said I should read were boring. My brother let me read his super hero books and they were fun. And my sister was reading Pinkalious and it was interesting. So I read those books mostly.
  • My Mom Was In School

    My Mom Was In School
When I started the second grade, my mom was at The University of Arizona. My dad didn't pay attention to us or what we were doing in school. So I read but I was still reading the Pinkalious books with my sister. I also read a lot of fairytales from a big book called 100 Classic Stories.
  • My Dad Wouldn't Buy Me Books

I really wanted to read the books that my mom would buy for my sister while she was in Tucson. I read my brother's Inferno books when I could sneak it, but I didn't have books of my own. I asked my dad to buy me a Goosebumps, but he wouldn't. Eventually he got mad and bought me the book but he would take it away from me when I upset him.
  • My Sister Gave Me A Book

It was a graphic novel called DC Super Hero Girls Final Crisis. It had really cool pictures and my favorite part was when Super Girl ran away from school to not have to take finals and crashed into the Kent's barn.
  • I Love Ever After High

When I was in 4th grade I read a lot of books. But everytime I checked out a book it was Ever After High. I liked it so much I went as Cherise Hood (daughter of Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf) for Halloween.
  • The School Was Alive

In 4th grade, my mom bought my brother the book The School Is Alive from a book fair. I liked it so much that everytime Inwent to the library I would read the series.
  • My Mom Bought Me A Whole New World

I like Disney Princesses and their stories. When we were in target buying books for my sister, I saw a book with Jafar on the cover. It was called A Whole New World. My mom bought it and saw that there were other twisted tales with the villains as the main characters. My mom said she would buy me more when I finished it.
  • Summer of Hunger Games

This summer, my mom found the whole Hunger Games series and bought it for me. I started to read the books, but stopped when we went to orientation.
