Tron
This was the first favorite movie I ever had, and the obsession lasted a good five years. Within that time, I probably watched this movie about 100 times, conservatively. I got the 20th Anniversary Special Edition for my birthday when I was 6 and still have it to this day. -
The Princess Bride
This movie blew my mind when I first saw it as a 7 year old. It was hilarious, riské (for me at the time), amazingly well acted, and told a great story. This was the first movie that really opened my eyes to just what a film could do. -
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie
I first saw this movie when my good friend Tom Masison slept over at my house. We watched it at around midnight, and laughed so hard we both felt sick for hours. Since then, it has been a staple of all late-night hangouts with friends, and it is a movie which has made me laugh even after my third dozen viewings. Tons of great memories attached to this movie. -
Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail
This movie introduced me to Monty Python, again along with my friend Tom Masison. After watching it (at least four times) we went out and got the whole set of Monty Python's Flying Circus and watched many hours of improvised British humor. This experience is mainly what led me to my love of acting. I started off loving improv and performing improv, and through that became deeply involved in theater, and am to this day. -
Hackers
A cheesey cornball hacking flick from the 90s. I first saw this on TV with my brother and immediately fell in love with the mostrosity. I still cannot explain why, but this is one of my go-to movies if I need cheering up. It has a bad plot, bad acting, and death-penalty worthy bad use of technology. -
Equilibrium
This was the first R-rated movie I ever saw. It introduced me to Christain Bale, one of my favorite actors, and was a genuinely well thought out and very well choreographed action movie that I enjoyed immensely. -
The Dark Knight
The best theater experience I have ever had. Second favorite movie ever for me, right behind Sunshine (coming later on.) I saw this in Imax and it blew me away. I've never seen anything so well crafted from acting to storyline and message. Seeing it on an Imax screen was an experience unlike any other. -
Cube
The first and essentially only movie I've ever truly enjoyed that could be classified as a horror movie. It's gripping, well thought out, and has very developed characters that all show different negative aspects of human nature in an almost hearbreaking way as it's thrown into contrast with the good in the hearts of most. Very enjoyable and a highlight of an otherwise unthoughtful genre. -
F for Fake
A part documantary and part fiction by Orson Welles that is nearly impossible to describe. Welles is a renowned "faker" in his own words, and produced this movie about the world's most famous modern art forger. It gets much more complicated but... I honestly do not know how to describe the rest. The movie was inspiring in it's spirit and in what one can really do with black and white formats. -
Sunshine
This is currently and probably will remain for some time, my favorite movie. It is a psychological thriller of amazing scope, and easily the most gripping movie I have ever seen in my life. It does not give you a break once the plot hook begins. I've seen it 5 times in the last month and would happily see it again, each time showing it to more people and everyone that I've showed it to has universally loved it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMns4c-0sq0&feature=related
