My Life

  • The day I was born

    The day I was born
I came into this world on May 13, 2002 I was born in the bronx at Lawrence Hospital at 12:15. I was my mother's first child, however I did not come out as easily as she would have hoped because my umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck. I was unable to breath and doctors had to take me away immediately, thankfully I was okay and was able to go back to my mother. I weighed in at 6 lbs and 4 ozs and both my parents were filled with joy and extremely excited to have me here in this world.
  • My first steps

    My first steps
10 Months after my birth I had reached a great milestone and took my first steps. I was still living in the bronx at the time in my parents apartment when I decided to give another attempt at walking. For most babies walking is difficult, and this was true with me. I went many months trying to stand up and walk but ended up only falling back down on my butt. Except for this day, I was crawling on the floor when I braced myself up from the center table in the living room and began to walk.
  • The Move

    The Move
This day changed my life forever moving from the loud and busy city environment of the bronx to the quiet and more relaxed suburb of Putnam Lake was something that I had to get used to. I had to leave all my friends from preschool behind and move to an unfamiliar place. Adjusting to my new neighborhood was a struggle for me, mostly because the kids in my class did not look like me. I was used to being around black kids. Therefore I stood out greatly being the only black kid in my class.
  • Little Sister

    Little Sister
This was the day I had to become mature and responsible on this day my younger sister Jordan was born. The very moment I saw her in my home I wanted to make sure nothing bad ever happened to her. My mother was relieved to have given birth to her because she would describe the pregnancy as painful and difficult. However both my parents were grateful to have produced such a beautiful little girl. She may have been very annoying and loud but I still love her and would do anything to protect her.
  • First Year of Football

    First Year of Football
When I first started playing football in 3rd grade I would have never guessed that I would fall in love with the sport. My father loved the game, he played in school therefore he greatly encouraged me to play. I had an absolute blat playing my first year because I was with my friends however, I was still a little disappointed because the coaches had me playing as a center. This was discouraging because my dream position was tight end and I was never even given the opportunity to prove myself.
  • The Passing of a role Model

The Passing of a role Model
When I heard the horrible news of my grandfather passing it hit me hard. This experience taught me adversity because this was the first time I had ever lost a loved one. Most children go through the experience of losing a grandparent but my grandfather and I were very close. I him everyday because my grandparents live right across the street from us. My grandfather was a hard working and respectable man, and that is exactly how he taught his grandchildren to be. I will never forget about him.
  • The Day I Got Robbed

    The Day I Got Robbed
The day I was robbed was one of the scariest days of my life, my sister, cousin and I were entering my home when we noticed that the front door was opened. My cousin instantly knew something was wrong so he came inside with us. We quickly noticed items in our house were missing and when my sister went downstairs she saw a huge rock on the floor along with shattered pieces of glass from the window. she screamed and ran up stairs, we all ran outside and called the cops.
  • Didn't Make Honor Roll

    Didn't Make Honor Roll
It was my first quarter in middle school and I was struggling to adjust to the workload that came with middle school. I always thought of myself as a good student in C.V Starr however when I entered middle school I struggled to keep up with the work. I would stay after for extra help and come in for lunch to meet teachers but I still ended up having trouble. When the first quarter came to a close I knew i didn't make honor roll and it was devastating to me, especially since my friends made it.
  • My Chorus Solo

    My Chorus Solo
This day was the most embarrassing day of my life. Our middle school choir was singing the song Happy by Pharrell Williams and I had a solo during the song. I was so nervous before the concert I was debating on just running away. When we stepped out and faced the enormous crowd of parents I saw my mother with her phone out ready to record. When the choir stopped singing and I was supposed to sing I froze for a second but then the words came out shaky and off key. I never wanted to sing again.
  • My First School Team

    My First School Team
When I tried out for the basketball team in 7th grade and made it I was filled with joy. I felt that my hard work and dedication paid off because I made the school team. Both of my parents were filled with joy however they both said that it doesn't end here. I may have made the team but I still needed to continue to work hard and get better. I played shooting guard and I played pretty well, there were a few skills I could have worked on more but I still played good. It was a great experience.
  • My First School Dance

    My First School Dance
The day of the 8th grade dance was the best day ever in my middle school life. My mom had taken me to a new barber shop to get my haircut the day before. I was taking one of the prettiest girls in school to the dance so I was very excited. Before the dance people would take pictures with their dates at someone's house. When my date and I were taking pictures I met her mother. I have never been so nervous to meet another human being before. But all in all I had a great time at the dance.
  • I Got Rejected

    I Got Rejected
This was by far one of my most painful failures that I had ever experienced. During gym I had a crush on one of the girls in my class, I thought she was really pretty, funny and cool but it turns out she didn't feel the same way about me. One day after class we were all waiting for the bell to ring to dismiss us to our next class. I thought that this would be a good time to go over to her and tell her how I feel. Unfortunately she didn't feel the same way. And gym class became a little awkward.
  • My JV Breakout Season

    My JV Breakout Season
After this jv football season I came to the realization that I want to play college football. I was able to see that I have the ability to play college football if I continue to work hard. I played cornerback that year on jv and finished with 6 interceptions on the season with only 8 games. The season was an eye opener for me and my family because they saw the potential I had after that season. This set out my future and I decided that I want to go to college to continue playing football.
  • The Day I Got Cut

    The Day I Got Cut
The day I got cut was devastating, I never thought I would get cut from the jv basketball team because I was on the modified team for both years in middle school. This was a huge eye opener for me because I realized that if I truly wanted something I would have to genuinely work hard for it. It came as a surprize for my parents as well, the istantanly blamed the jv coach and said he was a bad coach, however I knew deep down that just had a bad try-out and have to work harder in order to improve.
  • My First Varsity Football Game

    My First Varsity Football Game
My first varsity football game was a huge success we beat Sleepy Hollow at home and I played great. Coach Started me at cornerback and I had multiple tackles during the game. I even deflected a pass on third down forcing a punt. The student section began chanting my name, it truly was an amazing feeling. Along with a good defensive performance I also had decent punt returns in the game. It was my first time ever being on punt return and it was a great thrill. I had a lot of fun beating SH.
  • My Drivers License

    My Drivers License
When I got my license it truly came as a surprize to me. When I pulled up to the testing sight with my instructor I was very nervous. The lady who was testing my driving seemed to also be in a bad mood and kept writing things down. Finally when the test concluded she went a long tangent on all the things I did wrong but finally said I passed. I was extremely happy and told my parents right away they were both proud and happy. Now I have the freedom to go wherever I desire, before 9 that is.
