    Japan's invasion of China
    This conflict, known as the "Second Sino-Japanese war", involved the full-scale war between the Republic of China and Japan. At first this was a minor conflict that started in September of 1931, but became a full-on brawl 7 years later. Japan mainly wanted to expand its influence politically and militarily so they can have an easier time accessing raw materials and labor.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
    This. On September 1st 1939, Hitler has successfully bugun WWII w/ the invasion of Poland. Hitler invaded Poland to rule all of Poland, ultimately betraying Russia when agreeing that Russia would have part of Poland.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    The Battle of Britain was a brawl between Britain and Germany. in July 1940, Germany began bombing ships, and in August, began aerial attacks against convoys and ports. The Royal Air Force was able to defend Britain, though. By the middle of September, it was clear that the Luftwaffe could not defeat Britain w/ the Royal Air Force on their side. On October 12, Hitler called off the invasions of Britain.

    (AKA the Berlin Pact) This was an agreement b/w the 3 countries of Germany, Japan, and Italy for a defensive military alliance that was eventually joined by 4 other coutries that Hitler took over (Yugoslavia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria), and later Slovakia. This pact was signed by Hitler, Galeazzo Ciano, and Saburo Kurusu.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    Lend-Lease Act
    The Lend-Lease Act was the only way for providing U.S. military aid to foreign nations in WWII. The act also allowed the president to transfer any materials that will assist the soldiers. Brazil, China, the Soviet Union, Britain and so many other countries received weapons under this law.

    German Blitzkrieg on Soviet Union
    "Blitzkrieg", meaning "lightning war", was a military tactic used by Nazi Germany to invade and attack a bunch of the countries in Europe. For the Soviet Union, it seemed as though Germany has defeated them, but fast forward a year later, Germany attacked the Soviet Union again w/ Blitzkrieg. Surprisingly, the SU won by launching a counteroffensive attack in November, trapping and destroying an entire German army in Stalingrad.

    The Leningrad Blockade (AKA the Siege of Leningrad) was an extended military operation attempted by the German Army Group North against Leningrad in the Eastern Fron Theatre of WWII.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th 1941, tons of Japanese fighter planes attacked and bombed the the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Hawaii. The attack lasted for about 2 hours, killing more than 2,000 navy soldiers. This attack on Pearl Harbor cinvinced the United States of America to join the brawl in WWII.

    Wannsee Conference
    The Wannsee conference was a meeting of senior officials of Nazi Germany, taking place in the Berlin countryside in January 1942. The point in this conference was to ensure the cooperation bureaucratic leaders of different government departments to put into the effect of the final solution to the Jewish question, whereby most of Jews in Germany-controlled land will just be imported to Poland then killed.

    6 months after the attack of Pearl Harbor,The battle of Midway was an intense naval battle in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. The United States of America managed to defeat Japan w/ the help of major advances in code breaking. These code breakers enabled the U.S. to predict and counter Japan's planned surprise attack of its remaining aircraft carriers. The U.S. has inflicted permanent damage to Japan's Navy.

    D-Day was a battle where about 160,000 American, Canadian and British soldiers invaded and landed on five different beach locations in the Normandy region of France. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required immense planning.

    Hitler had resided to his bunker in Berlin. He supposedly eaten a cyanide capsule, and proceeded to shoot himself w/ his service pistol.

    Taking place in a Russian resort town in Crimea, the Yalta conference had U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin making important discussions and choices regarding the future progress of the war and the postwar world.

    Iwo Jima/Okinawa
    The battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa involved a massive multi-tasking battle w/ Germany not surrending until May. The U.S. armed forces captured the islands of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Imperial army. The battle of Okinawa had the U.S. fighting along the Ryuku islands of Okinawa and included a giant amphibious assault in the Pacific war.

    (AKA Victory in Europe day) VE Day is a publicaly celebrated holiday on May 8, 1945 to celebrate the end of WWII. Nazi Germany has surrendered its armed forces to the Allies of WWII.
  • Potsdam Comference

    The Potsdam Conference was held in Potsdam, Germany in 1945. The conference was led by Stalin, Churchill, and U.S. President Harry Truman to continue the discussion that was made 6 months prior in Yalta by Stalin, Churchill, and President Roosevelt.

    Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    On this day during WWII, an American pilot that piloted a B-29 bomber dropped the world's first man-made atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This explosion annihilated 90% of the city and instantly killed approximately 80,000 civilians. 3 days later, another atomic bomb was used on the city of Nagasaki. Japan's emperor at the time Hirohito nnounced Japan's surrender on August 15, 1945.

    On said August 14, 1945, Japan had announced that they have surrendered to the Allies, thus officially ending WWII when Japan signed the surrender document on the 2nd of September. Since than, the 14th and 15th of August have been known as "VJ Day", which is short for "Victoryover Japan Day". Why does this day happen on 2 days? It's because of time zone diffferences. to the afternoon of August 15, 1945, in Japan, and to August 14, when all the East heard about it.

    President Harry Truman passed up the Truman Doctrine stating that the U.S. will provide political, military and economic assistance to all nations w/ a democratic government that are under threat from internal or external autocratic forces.

    The Marshall plan (AKA European Recovery Program) was a U.S. finacial plan to aid Europe with about $17 billion in economic support to rejuvinate the European economies after WWII. The plan was in operation for four years beginning in April 1948.

    Stalin dies of a massive heart on March 3rd, 1953. His successor, Nikita Khrushchev, leads the Soviet Unionduring part of the Cold War.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw pact was a treaty with the following members: Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. This treaty was a call to the member states to come to the defense of any member attacked by an outside enemy and have it set up a unified military command by the rule of Ivan Stepanovich Konev of the Soviet Union. The Warsaw pact was named "Warsaw pact" for having it take place in Warsaw, Russia (Soviet Union).

    Soviet Russia begins the "Space Age" by lauching thw world's first ever artificial satellite into space. The word "Sputnik" is the Russian term for "satellite." However, in early 1958 Sputnik began to disentigrate in the atmosphere of space, eventually burning up and destroying itself. Interested, the United States of America decided to launch there own satellite into space on January 31, 1958. By then, Russia already many other satellites planned for outer space.

    This was a failed attempt at an invasion by Cuba to try and overthrow the Communist leader, Fidel Castro. Fidel Castro made Cuba side w/ the Soviet Union, whom was at war w/ the U.S. in the Cold War.

    The Berlin Wall was an enormous barrier that divided Berlin for 29 years (1961-1989), built by the German Democratic Republic that completely cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin until Novrmber 1989.
