Muhammad was born in the town of Mecca. His name means "to praise, to glorify." He grew up in the hill country, learning pure arabic. -

Muhammad's care from his uncle
After the death of his mother, Muhammad ends up being in the care of his grandfather. At eight, his grandfather passes away and he ends up being in the care of his uncle. -

Muhammad's teen years
As a teen, he worked as a shepherd to earn his keep. He often traveled with merchants in his free time and earned the their trust. -

Muhammad acts as a Caravan Agent
He entered service of a wealthy Meccan Merchant. -
Period: 595 to 609
Muhammad's marriage and family life
Khadja proposes marriage to Muhammad and they wed around 595 AD. They had 6 children: 2 sons died in infancy, 4 daughters. -

First Revelations
Muhammad was empowered to speak great and beautiful words by an overpowering presence, one he attributed to be God. it shook him to the core and he didn't speak about it to his family until later on. -

Muhammad shares his message
After several more revelations, Muhammad made his messages public. At first he and his followers were ridiculed and once Muhammad's family died, the leaders of Mecca attempted to assassinate Muhammad. -

Muhammad and his followers migrate to Medina
Muhammad and his followers leave Mecca to go to Yathrib. Yathrib's leaders were suffering a vicious civil war and they welcomed him and his words of wisdom. He stayed there for the next 6 years and Yathrib became known as Medina, the City of the Prophet. -
Period: 625 to 628
Military period
The Meccans didn't like Muhammad's success and skirmished led to three major battles. The Muslims won the first, lost the second, and outlasted the third. A treaty was formed in March 628 but the Meccan forces breached it a year later. -

The conquest of Mecca
The balance of power had shifted from Mecca to Muhammad and his followers. In January 630 AD, Muhammad and his followers marched towards Mecca, joined with multiple tribes. They marched there without bloodshed and and the Meccans eventually joined them. -
Period: 630 to Jun 8, 632
Muhammad's final years
Muhammad returned to Medina where he consolidated much of the Arabian peninsula under Islam for the next three years. In March 632, he returned to Mecca to form a Pilgrimage. He then returned to Medina after his pilgrimage where he died on June, 8th, 632 AD.
