The Start of MADD
On this date in 1980, Cari Lightner was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender. She is hit from behind and thrown 125 feet in the air, dying upon impact. This marked the beginning of the movement as her mother, Candace Lightner, started the organization to fight back against drunk driving.
