    James Madison was a Democratic Republican and the fourth President of the United States. He served two terms, was preceded by Thomas Jefferson, and succeeded by James Monroe. He helped compose the Constitution and the Bill of Rights which gave him the nickname "The Father of the Constitution."

    In the Battle of Tippecanoe, William Henry Harrison led U.S troops to a victory against the Shawnee Indians in the Northwest Territory. This caused many Indians in the territory to ally with the British for the coming war of 1812.

    The main reasons behind the War of 1812 were the British restricting U.S trade, seizing American ships and seamen, and the United States' desire to expand its territory. Because of rising tensions, President James Madison gave into congressional War Hawks and signed a Declaration of War against Britain.

They burned down the White House, the Capital Building, and other important government buildings. Unfortunately for the British, less than a day after they started attacking, an extreme thunderstorm (maybe a hurricane) put out the fires and seriously crippled the British. The British forces fled to their ships and left.

    The Battle of Baltimore was a battle fought between the British and Americans During the War of 1812, It is most famous for inspiring poet Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner. In the battle, the British launched a ground invasion at North Point. They were met by American Forces who stalled them so the city's defenses could be completed. The British navy bombarded Fort McHenry overnight, however, the American defenses held inspiring the poem that would become the National Anthem.

    The Treaty of Ghent was the peace treaty that ended the War of 1812 between the US and Britain. It was signed in the city of Ghent, United Netherlands (now Belgium). It reestablished the borders of the two nations to what they were before the war and ended the conflict formally.

    The Era of Good Feelings was a period that lasted from 1815 to 1825 which roughly coincided with the Presidency of James Monroe. The Era was marked by relative unity in the country. Notable events during the Era include the fall of the Federalist Party and the establishment of the Second Bank of the United States.

    The Battle of New Orleans was a battle fought between British and American forces during the War of 1812. Is is especially notable because it was fought in 1815 after the war ended. The battle was fought before news of the end of the war could reach America near modern day New Orleans. The American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson amassed in the city after spotting British ships nearby. After days of fighting, the Americans stood victorious and the British retreated.

It was caused by a spiral of events that started when the Bank of the United States started rejecting state-chartered banknotes. The crisis broke out in 1819 after a massive drop in the value of cotton in 1819 which caused the nations already on edge economy to break into a crisis.

    The Missouri Compromise was the legislation that allowed for Missouri and Maine to be admitted to the nation as slave and free states respectively. It also set a geographic boundary for slavery at the 36°30′ parallel. States north of the boundary could not have slavery, but states south of the line could have slavery if they chose.
  • James Monroe Reelected

    In the election of 1820, James Monroe won a second term in office while facing no organized opposition. Monroe and his running mate, Daniel D. Tompkins faced almost no opposition and won all but one electoral vote. Even if he had faced opposition, most historians believe Monroe would have still been victorious because he was extremely popular with the voters.

    The Monroe Doctrine was a U.S policy enacted by President James Monroe. It stated that the United Sates would not interfere in any European conflicts. The doctrine also said that the United States would not allow or recognize any new colonies in the Western Hemisphere, but would recognize and not interfere with any existing colonies. It also made clear that any act of aggression against a nation in the Western Hemisphere would be considered an act of aggression against the United States.
