    Gandhi's Birth
    Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar, India to parents Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibai Gandhi. His father Karamchand was the prime minister of Porbandar. His mother Putlibai was all about religion and didn't care much about finery or jewelry. This is a significant event because Gandhi ended up becoming the leader for India's non-violent revolution against Britain.

    The First Boer War
    The First Boer War or the First Freedom War took place from December 16th 1880 to March 23rd 1881. This war was fought between the United Kingdom and the Transvaal Republic. The war started when a British official seized a mans wagon for paying an illegally inflated tax and tied to auction it off. Boer's ended up coming tot the auction that day and shooting and killing the officials and taking the wagon back. This is significant because they ended up becoming a independent nation.

    In June 1891 Mohandas Gandhi became a lawyer. He graduated from the Inner Temple law school in the United kingdom. At the time he was at this school becoming a lawyer, his mother passed away. His family did not want him to know of her death because they did not want it to affect his education. This is important because becoming a lawyer gave him better speaking skills which he needed to be India's leader for there independence.

    On June 7th, 1893 Mohandas Gandhi was thrown off of a train in South Africa. The reason he was thrown off of this train is because he was refusing to move from his first class seat to a third class seat even though he had a valid first class ticket. This is significant because discrimination against Indians was a common practice and this experience gave Gandhi resolve to fight racial discrimination.

    In the spring of 1894 Mohandas Gandhi was about to leave South Africa and head back home to India, but there was a problem. Gandhi learns that there was a bill that would deny Indians the right to vote. Gandhi's friends convince him to stay there another month to fight the bill. Gandhi ended up staying in South Africa for 20 years. This is significant because it shows his will and want for Indians to have rights and not be discriminated.

    In December 1896, Gandhi realizes he will be staying in Africa for a while. He goes back to Bombay to get his wife and children and bring them to South Africa with him. When their ship arrives at Port Natal, a mob of angry white men, angry that he is stirring up trouble amongst Indians, won't let him and his family into the country. This is important because Gandhi stay in India for another 20 years protesting and if a police officer never let him through the mob he may have not got off.

    On May 6th, Czar Nicholas announced the implementation of the Fundamental Laws. These laws clarified the October Manifesto of 1905. Under the laws, a State Council was established to act as the upper house of the Duma. This upper house was controlled by Nicholas. On July 22nd, Nicholas dissolved the Duma and embarked upon a ruthless suppression of dissent throughout the country. This event is significant because it created new laws for Russia's government and change in the country.

    On January 10th 1908, Mohandas Gandhi is arrested for the first time in South Africa. Gandhi refused to register with the government in South Africa. Gandhi is arrested and spends all of his time in prison reading. He reads the book "Civil Disobedience" and is even more committed to peaceful resistance. This is significant because his whole goal during his non-violent revolution against Britain was to try and shed no blood and this book had a great deal of influence of his thinking.

    In 1910 the Mexican Revolution started. A long and bloody struggle with many different alliances ultimately ended the 30 year dictatorship in Mexico and the establishment of a constitutional republic. This war started with the people being mad at Porfirio Diaz because he favored wealthy landowners and industrialists. This is a significant event because Mexico is a close neighbor to the United States and them having a dictatorship may have led to some problems here as well.

    During the course of the year 1913, Mohandas Gandhi began to get the name Mahatma. This means "Great Soul" and is given to only the holiest of men. Gandhi is not fond of the name however because he thinks that all men are created equal. This name is important because it shows that his people see him as a great man and someone that they want running and fighting for their country against Great Britain.

    World War I began in 1914 and lasted until 1918. There were 2 teams during this war. The central powers which was Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire fought against the Allied Powers which consisted of Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Japan, The United States, and Romania. This was Important because it was one of the first major wars we had in our world.

    On October 29th, 1929 the American economy had been very weak. It began with the dramatic crash of the stock market. 16 million shares of stock were quickly sold by panicking investors who had lost faith in the American economy. This is an important event because a lot of people went homeless and lost jobs and weren't making a lot of money. People starved and didn't have enough money to support families and ultimately could have possibly affected our own blood-related ancestors.

    On January 26th 1930, Mohandas Gandhi published India's Declaration of Independence. Having returned to India in 1915 as a hero, Gandhi makes a movement to break away from Great Britain. And he makes the Declaration in 1930. This is significant because it is the blueprint for what the country will become, and is a start to what they want for themselves.

    On March 12th 1930, Gandhi led tens of thousands of people from Sabermanti to the Arabian Sea, 240 miles away. Forced to buy salt only from Britain, Gandhi protests the monopoly. Once they reached the sea they defied the law by making salt of their own. Protests broke out all across India and 60,000 people were arrested including Gandhi. This is significant because it showed that the people believed in Gandhi and saw him as a strong leader for their country.

    On September 1st 1939 World War 2 had begun. Germany now under control of Adolf Hitler and his socialist (Nazi Party) were seeking world Domination. They had signed treaties with Japan and Italy. They first attacked Poland and then Great Britain and France declared war on them. Japan then attacked the U.S for stopping their trade with them and that caused the United States to get involved. The allies ended up winning the War in 1945. This was significant because it showed the allies had power.

    Mohandas Gandhi was assassinated and killed on January 30th, 1948. He was killed by a Hindu extremist in New Delhi. The Hindu kills him for being too Sympathetic to the Muslims. The man thought that in killing Gandhi it will lead to a war that will eliminate Muslims. Instead, mourning over Gandhi's death lead to peace. This is important because Gandhi was one of India's greatest leaders and one of the reasons they are an independent nation today.
