Election of Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was a progressive president elected in 1901. He became president because President McKinley was assassinated. He was a Harvard graduate, a cowboy, soldier, president, and a third party candidate. Roosevelt was credited with the square deal and the Pure Food and Drug Act. He also conserved national parks by creating forest services because of his soft-spot for them. He chose Taft to run for president after him. -
Election of 1912
Roosevelt didn't like how Taft ran America, so he decided to run against him. The republicans chose Taft, but Roosevelt would not give up so easily. He formed a new progressive party with the republicans that agreed with him. This split made it easy for Wilson to win, making him the president. -
The Assination of Archduke Francis
The assination is what led to the first world war. The Archduke was heir of the Austria-Hungarian throne. Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia and Russia came to aid Serbia in the war. France was next to help when Germany declared war on Russia. Then Brittan joined the fight to help France. the countries were soon divided in the Central Powers Nd the Allied powers. Many people believe that Germany Assassinated the Archduke to start the war. -
The Sinking of the R.M.S Lusitania
Germany used unrestricted submarine warfare. They warned America to not use British ships because they will fire with out a warning. America ignored the warning. The R.M.S Lusitania was sunk. Wilson demanded Germany apologize and stop using unrestricted submarine warfare. He also threatened to stop diplomatic recognition if Germany attacked another passenger ship.Germany cooperated for a while. Germany started using unrestricted submarine warfare; America went to war with Germany. -
Election of 1916
Wilson ran for president again and went against Republican Candidate Charles Evens Hughes. Roosevelt did not run for president. This saddened people. It was a very close election, and everyone thought that Hughes would win. in the end Wilson had the weight of presidency and the coming World War 1. -
Armistice day
Armistice Day was when Germany agreed to stop fighting. They signed the armistice at Compiegne, France. This brought the first world war to an end. At the Treaty of Versailles they blamed Germany and made them pay for the damages done. Today we call it Veteran's Day.
