MINECRAFT

  • Minecraft was started by Mark Persson during Summer of 2009 by himself.

  • On the first weekend after releasing Minecraft, Persson was able to sell 40 copies showing his success. Due to releasing so quickly, word of mouth spread with the game.

  • Alongside this, he charged people 10 euros (£8) to download Minecraft.

  • He released Minecraft as an alpha but the game was deliberately missing parts and due to this left people to decide what they had to do with the game and figure out simple tasks like making a bed and how to use the resources.

  • Every Friday, Persson would update it adding brand new features to entice the new audience and to always attract their interests no matter what.

  • A beta version of the game was eventually released.

  • In summer 2010. Persson set up Mojang which came to be one of the most successful gaming companies making Persson a lot of money, he set it up with his partner Porser

  • By April, he sold 2 million units.

  • In August he sold 3 million and that was when he announced Minecon.

  • They were able to sell 4th million copy in the Minecraft units.

  • Mojang was given an investment deal but they turned it down. However by the end of 2011, they had '£52 million in revenue' .

  • Minecraft merchendise played a big deal in the revenue. Eventually, Mojang made £4.5 million in profit and more was given to Persson.

  • Minecraft was able to pass a million units.

  • It came out as a Beta game which means it is released with bugs and is not finished but that is for the audience feedback so that Persson can adapt to it.

  • Java: 1.1 was released.

  • LEGO announces that the LEGO Minecraft project has passed the 10,000 required votes.

  • LEGO reveals the final design of the first LEGO Minecraft set.

  • The Bukkit team joined Mojang so that they can develop the software around Minecraft.
