When Life Gives You Lemons

  • Lived in Las Vegas

    Lived in Las Vegas
After being an only child for 6 years, my mom finally gave birth to my first brother. He arrived a bit early because of some complications. This was my first time in an extremely hot climate. We had lived with my Dad's brother for a while till we moved into our very own mobile home. It didn't last long though as the owner of the terrain decided to sell it to someone who was gonna build a shopping center. That never happened. We decided to try an apartment complex, where we stayed for just a year
  • Almost Fostered While in Vegas

    Almost Fostered While in Vegas
One of the most traumatizing events in my childhood would be the day I didn't let my parents know we'd be dismissed early from school. So, my parents were out of town & unaware of the sudden schedule change. The school wouldn't let me leave with my neighbors so I waited for 6 hrs. While I had my nose in my coloring book, there was a Child Services officer who decided that it was time to go. Apparently my parents arrived just as I stepped into the lady's car before I'd be taken to a foster home.
  • Adventures in Carmel

    Adventures in Carmel
We eventually moved to NY where my 2nd brother was born. My cousins & I were inseparable, we'd play video games, basketball, trampoline, build treehouses and we even witnessed a cobra living near the lake. The eldest had to throw a rock to prove it was in the tree, he actually hit it and we ran out of our little home. We were relieved when we caught an eagle fly towards the direction of the cobra. One of my cousins poked fun at the situation, claiming she was bit! Her sister was crying of course
  • First Computer

    First Computer
My dad bought me my first very own laptop that didn't survive my obsession. My love for technology started, I had a YouTube channel where I'd upload animations, music videos and funny skits. I learned to edit videos at a very young age. It was not all fun and games though. It became an addiction very hard to quit. I didn't socialize with my friends as much, I didn't like going out with my family anymore, I was distracted in school. All I could think about were all the virtual worlds I played in.
  • Phoenix Living

    Phoenix Living
Living with your dad's sister's family might sound fun but for a household of already 7 people...sounds like chaos in the making. Thank God it was only for 6 months. It wasn't always a constant fight between the younger kids, sometimes we had our good bonding moments, but like all families, we just don't quite respect each other's boundaries. Gossip would spread like wildfire. But I am thankful for everything my tia provided for us. All the memories I made with them I will cherish.
  • Learning Mexican Slang

    Learning Mexican Slang
I moved to Mexico where I attended school & learned a ton about my culture. Of course I was teased because of my accent, but that eventually went away. I made lots of friends who were as curious to learn about my birthplace as I was about their little town. The food, the music, the scenery, the people...I loved it all. You really don't appreciate things until they're gone. Leaving South America was the hardest thing ever. We actually settled for 5 years, longest we've gone in one area.
  • Bombing in Mexico

    Bombing in Mexico
My family and I had just recently moved into an apartment in New Rochelle, we were watching the news one late night...Our hometown in Mexico was on the tv. Not for a good reason. There had apparently been a bombing/shooting in the plaza. Someone was being chased and lost themselves in the crowd that the attackers carelessly took innocent lives. I remember being told when I went back years later that no one would be out after 8 pm. But eventually security was maxed & the town felt a little safer.
  • First Pets

    First Pets
My Dad surprised us with our first pets, a Chihuahua and a Dachshund. These breeds did not mix well at ALL. Caramelo (the chi) was very aggressive whereas Hershey (wiener dog) was too much of a pacifist. When they got older, their fights were no longer playful. Caramelo took a bite out of Hershey's nose and since we were moving again, we decided it was best to give them away to different owners. My brothers and I miss them dearly. Hershey has since passed away, but Caramelo is still growing fat.
  • Appendicitis

    Appendicitis
Still in Mexico. I had severe stomach pain, got it checked out as just a stomach bug. Days past, I was practically hunching over the pain. The doctor realized his grave mistake & sent me to the ER. There I waited, calm, but concerned, not for myself, but for those coming in with severe injuries. Surgery was a success. I had faith. What came after it, was not expected. I lost 10kg, my hair began falling out, I was tested for anemia. Negative. Really took a toll on my mental health as well.
  • Brewster

    Brewster
When I came to this town, I thought to myself, "I don't know anyone!" But I didn't realize how small it was. Everyone seems to know each other. Not necessarily a good thing either, but I live with it. I've made a lot of new friends, met people that are just meant to teach me a valuable lesson and reunited with old pals that will probably remain in my future. I hope to go to college dedicating myself with technology, more on the artsy side of course (I hate math).
