  • Miguel Hidalgo

    The Mexicans finally decided to strike for independence. Miguel Hidalgo, a Mexican priest, rang his church bells and stated the "Cry of Dolores". When people heard this, they began coming towards the church and the revolution basically began after that.
  • Miguel Hidalgos execution

    After Hidalgo and his companions were fighting battles in Mexico City, they were short on ammunition so they had to retreat. The Spanish engaged them and shot cannons which scared the Mexican people and they fled. Miguel and the rest of his troops moved up north but was betrayed and executed for treason.
  • Jose Maria Morelos

    The popularity of the independence decreased after the death of Hidalgo, but Jose Maria Morelos, who was appointed by Hidalgo sparked it up again. He organized troops that carried out guerrilla warfare. By 1813 he won enough territory to encircle the capital

    New congress of Mexico

    Morelos held a congress to discuss the plans for the nation after the Spanish were out. They issued a Declaration of independence and those who opposed to it were guilty of treason.
  • Spanish take more control

    Meanwhile the Mexicans were discussing their future plans, the Spanish gathered strength and broke the encirclement, and retook many towns.The rebels, decreased in size and strength and Morelos was captured and executed.
  • The revolution decreases

    Over the last 5 years, nothing major happened. The revolution was at its lowest point with only about 3,000 people left in major bands. People were able to report back to Spain that everything was under control
  • Mexican Revolution almost ends

    Viceroy Apodaca placed colonel Iturbide in charge of 2,500 men to fight Guerrero. Iturbide marched his force towards Guerreros and instead of fighting, he wanted to meet with him in peace.
  • End of the revolution

    Iturbide marched into the capital with Vicente Guerrero and Guadalupe Victoria and the army. After so many years of fighting and over 300 years of Spanish rule, Mexico was independent at last .
