    Dispute About Texas
    During 1845 Texas became a state of the U.S and Mexico didn’t like that. There was a big dispute about where they should put the border of Mexico and Texas. The U.S wanted the border to be at Rio Grande, but Mexico wanted the border to be at Nueces River. This disputed led to the Mexican American War.

    On April 25, 1846 the Mexican American War began. The Mexican cavalry attacked U.S soldiers and killed 12 of them while they were patrolling the disputed zone. General Zachary Taylor then called in reinforcements and that led to two battle. The U.S declared war with Mexico, but Mexico didn’t.

    On May 8, 1846, the Battle of Palo Alto was fought. Which was shortly after the U.S declared war with Mexico. General Zachary Taylor and his men were out number compared to Mexico’s army but, General Taylor led his 200 men to victory.

    On May 9, 1846, The Battle of Resaca de la Palma. This battle was fought one day after the Battle of Palo Alto. After the Mexican took defeated they went for another attack. The attacked twice and was beaten both times by General Taylor’s men.

    On May 13, 1846, the U.S declared war on Mexico. After the battle of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma, President Polk told the Congress to declare war on Mexico. The Congress declared war on Mexico.

    On July 7, 1846, The Battle of Monterey was fought. General Taylor was there to capture a city, it came down to hand to hand fighting in the streets. But they were victorious.

    On February 22 and 23, 1847, the Battle at Buena Vista was fought. General Taylor and his army was outnumbered compared to the Mexican Army. But the still ended up with a victory.

    On April 19 and 20, 1847. General Winfield Scott lead his men to a battle against Santa Anna’s army. This then led to the path way to the Battle of Mexico City.

    During the summer of 1847, President Polk attempted to make a peace treaty with Mexico. Mexico declined the peace treaty. So the war continued.

    On September 12-14, 1847, The Battle of Mexico City. The battle was fought in Mexico City lead by General Winfield Scott, and they had victory against the weakened Mexico Army, which gave the U.S a big advantage in the war.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
    On February 2, 1848, Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the war. This then made the Mexico border at Rio Grande instead of Nueces River. Also Mexico sold the U.S. today's California.
