    Getting my Dog, Sadie
On this day, I went to a puppy farm upstate with my mom and my sister. We had to go and find a puppy farm with a special type of hypoallergenic dog, since my sister has asthma and is very sensitive to most dog hair. We went into a room with a small pen for dogs and we picked out a puppy to take home with us. At first, she would bark and whine all night, since she was unfamiliar with her new home, but eventually she became comfortable and now she is a great dog and loves the whole family.
  • First Year at Camp Read

    First Year at Camp Read
This was my first time attending Camp Read at Curtis S Read Scout Reservation. This camping trip is what got me enthusiastic about Boy Scouts, and I decided at the end of this trip that I would try to become an Eagle Scout. Camp Read is a camp where scouts attend Merit Badge classes to earn and learn about the different Merit Badges available to Boy Scouts. Camp Read also includes fun activities that show newer scouts the spirit and culture of Scouting.
  • NYLT training

    NYLT training
I went through the National Youth Leadership Training course. NYLT is a program that teaches leadership skills to members of the BSA. Over the course of three weekends, I went through the training program, and learned about team communication, delegating responsibilities, and encouraging participation when acting as a leader. My NYLT training has helped me prepare for leadership positions. I was a patrol leader in my troop for 3 years, and I am now on the senior patrol and help manage the troop.
  • Losing Student Government Election

    Losing Student Government Election
On this day, I began my campaign to become the president of the student government. I was in 7th grade, and student government was the first after school club I ever joined. My campaign focused on communication between students and administration to help the students get what they want. In the end, I lost, and instead had to settle for vice president position. I continued to participate in student government and attended the meetings to try to push for changed I thought would help.
  • My First Spartan Race

    My First Spartan Race
This was my first Spartan Race. My parents convinced me to try a race, since they had been doing a lot themselves lately. They brought me to a Spartan Sprint in Tuxedo, New York. Tuxedo’s Sprint is known for being difficult, since the course is on a ski mountain, with lots of elevation change and obstacles. I did very good in the beginning, but slowed down later after some of the harder obstacles. I made it to the end, keeping up with my parents. I went on to do even more Spartans.
  • Was a Camp Read CIT

    Was a Camp Read CIT
I went to Curtis Read Scout Reservation to be a CIT for three weeks. A CIT is a Counselor-in-Training, an unpaid position for people that want to be counselors at Camp Read. I spent my time there helping merit badge classes across the two small camps that make up Camp Read. I found it very fun get scouts excited to learn about the class, but I found the relationship between the management and employees was uncomfortable, and I decided that I didn’t want to work there for 3 months every summer.
  • First Day of Work

    First Day of Work
This was my first day of work at my job. I work as a busser and food runner at the Bull & Barrel Brewpub. On this day, I did training for my job with my current coworker, Eric. Lots has changed since I began my job there, most of the people that worked there when I began have left and moved on to other jobs. Now, I help train new employees that were just like me, on their first day of work, learning how to work in the kitchen and dining room.
  • BSA Canoe Trek

    BSA Canoe Trek
I went upstate to do a Boy Scout canoe trek with some boys from my troop. The trek brought us up through a lake, down a river, and through another lake to the pickup site. We stopped on the shore every night and camped in hammocks. We ate only dehydrated camping meals and granola bars for the whole trip. We paddled for 60 miles over 5 days. Part of the river had a waterfall, so we had to carry our canoes and gear on land to go around. This is how I learned just how heavy a canoe is.
  • My First Time Being Late to Work

My First Time Being Late to Work
This is the first day I was ever late to work. The past few weeks, I had a similar schedule of three shifts a week. This one week, I had a shift on Thursday, not Friday. I had gotten into the rhythm of the usual three days, and when I checked the schedule for the week, I mistakenly read the Thursday as a Friday. When Thursday came around, I didn’t come to work by the time my shift was supposed to start. My manager called me, asking where I was, and I showed up to work 45 minutes late.
  • Finished Eagle Scout Project Work

    Finished Eagle Scout Project Work
On this day, I completed the work for my Eagle Scout Service Project. In order for a Boy Scout to advance to Eagle Scout rank, they must complete an Eagle Scout project. The project has to be proposed, planned, and managed by the scout, and it must benefit the community. My project was to add an information kiosk, some wooden walking puncheons, and a bench to a local hiking trail, Laurel Ledges. The project was completed over several workdays where scouts volunteer to help with the project.
