Malala is Born
Malala was born, and this was her parents very first child, a daughter. When boys were born there would be celebration, but if it was a girl the child would be brushed off and not celebrated by others. This a glimpse of how men and women are treated differently in the beginning of the book. It sets the tone for the upcoming events as Malala grows up to fight for what she believes in which is the equal treatment of men and women alike.
