Avery's New Attorney
Kathleen Zellner, an attorney who specializes in cases for wrongful convictions, announces she is taking on Avery's appeals. She will have the help from Tricia Bushnell, who is a legal director for the Midwest Innocence Project. -
"Let's Get Even, Steven"
Approximately 60 supporters of Avery and Dassey held a peaceful rally outside of the Manitowoc County Courthouse. These supporters believe Steven and Brendan are innocent and chanted for their release. -
Earl Avery Interview
Steven Avery's younger brother, Earl, interviews with Access Hollywood. In his interview, he states that his brother is innocent, that on October 31st 2005, the Rav4 was not on the Salvage Yard as he drove past. -
Duffin's Ruling
Dassey's petition for writ of habeas corpus was granted by William Duffin. Duffin is a federal magistrate of Milwaukee. Duffin wrote a 91 page ruling, that said Wisconsin prosecutors had 90 days to either release Dassey or retry him due to his constitutional rights being violated. -
Brendan's Release
In a 17 page ruling, Brendan was ordered to be released from prison, again by federal magistrate judge William Duffin. -
Release Blocked
Brendan Dassey's release, which had been granted, was blocked from the appeals court in Chicago while the case is still under appeal -
New Trial Request
Steven Avery requests for a new trial on his murder conviction. His reasoning is that evidence was planted against him. Zellner files a 1,272 page motion. -
Motion Denied
Steven Avery's motion for a new trial was denied by Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz. Judge Sutkiewicz claims that Steven has not met the legal standard to receive a new trial, in her six page decision. -
U.S. Supreme Court
Dassey's attorneys file a petition for a writ of certiorari. This is to have the Supreme Court Justices listen to Brendan's appeal. -
Dassey's Denial
The U.S. Supreme Court denies Brendan Dassey's petition to have the justices hear his appeal. He is to remain in prison to serve his life term. -
Zellner Tweets New Info Not Seen In 'Making A Murderer Part 2'
Avery's attorney, Kathleen Zellner, takes to Twitter for the fans of 'Making A Murderer.' She reveals new information in a 19 point post, along with a conclusion. Zellner believes that Steven's other nephew, Bobby Dassey, is the one to blame. Bobby is Brendan Dassey's brother. Zellner's Letter
Kathleen Zellner writes and files another letter with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. She recently discovered that the Calument County Sheriff's Department returned a human bone fragment to the Halbach family. The key evidence, those human bones, were destroyed, which could have exonerated Steven Avery. -
