  • Louis the XVI Calls the Estates General.

    Louis the XVI Calls the Estates General.
    *Before the Louis the XVI called the Estates General, France faced economical problems. This is because of the foreign wars they were involved in like the American Revolution,and because of reckless spending of the past rulers.
    * When the Estates General met, there was the First, Second and third. They decided that each estate would get one vote. This infuriated the third estate,which wanted it to be done by amount of members.

  • The Formation of the National Assembly.

    The Formation of the National Assembly.
    • When the King refused to give the third estate more power, they created the National Assembly. They met often and ran the country without help from the king.
  • Parisians Storm the Bastille.

    Parisians Storm the Bastille.
    The Parisians stormed the Bastille because they felt like they a lack of say in the government,and they believe French army was preparing for an attack,so they wanted to arm themselves. This causes them to go the Bastille to get weapons and gun power. This event was important for a few reasons. This would set off events that would lead to the overthrow of king,and it would give courage to the commoners to rise and go against the nobles.

    • The Declaration of the Rights of Men was a human civil rights document that stated the rights that French citizens should have. It also stated the involvement that the citizens should have in government. This was all stated in a Declarative format. Source: Shmoop
  • Women's march on Versailles.

    Women's march on Versailles.
    • In 1789 France's economy struggled. The lower class people were unsatisfied and starving women and peasants marched on Versailles,which caused Louis the XVI to return to Paris.
  • Establishment of the New Constitution.

    Establishment of the New Constitution.
    The Establishment of the New Constitution was created by the National Assembly during the French revolution. It established a Constitutional Monarchy and included ideas from the Enlightenment.

  • Execution of King and Queen/ Beginning of the Reign of Terror.

    Execution of King and Queen/ Beginning of the Reign of Terror.
    *After trying to escape France, Louis XVI and his family was caught. He was convicted of treason and went to the guillotine to be executed,which was created by Dr. Joseph Guillotine. What followed after was the reign of terror. It was a violent time were radicals took over,and executed anyone that wasn't part of the revolution. 200,000 were arrested and 17,000 people were executed. It ended on July 27,1794,when Robespierre was removed from power and executed.

    Napoleon Overthrows the Directory
    • Napoleon was a French Statesman,and military leader who rose to power during the French revolution. He overthrew the Directory and established a new government called the Consulate. Source: Ducksters.

    Napoleon Builds an Empire.
    *Napoleon Bonaparte conquest puts him against many European powers led by Great Britain. He is able to conquer most of Europe until a series of events that lead to his fall.

    Napoleon invades Russia.
    • Napoleon tries to conquer Russia and sends in 400,000 troops. However he is unsuccessful,and comebacks with only 10,000 troops. This would be his most costliest defeat. Source: Class Notes.

    The Congress of Vienna Meets.
    • It was a series of international meetings to secure peace across Europe. It established the principle of maintaining the balance of power. Source: Class notes
  • Napoleon defeated at Waterloo

    Napoleon defeated at Waterloo
    *After Napoleon escaped Elba he came back and regained power. He tried attacking Duke of Wellington( British army),but was defeated for the final time. After he was defeated he was sent to St. Helena.
  • The Death of Napoleon.

    The Death of Napoleon.
    After being defeated at the Battle of Waterloo Napoleon would be sent to St.Helena. He would die by death of stomach ailment.
