I started dancing when I was three years old, and am still involved with dance today. While dancing, I was able to become literate in the vocabulary used for different dance positions. I learned many French words, and a variety of terms within the dance world.

    I got hooked on phonics
I remember being in my living room in my parents house, and my mother forcing me to do the hooked on phonics activities. I didn't mind doing them. My mother was always making us do extra academic work, whether it was hooked on phonics or math facts. This was the beginning of my understanding of letters and their various sounds.

    Favorite Books
During late elementary school I discovered the tree house books. These books went through different historical events, that the main characters visited, This book series also spiked my interest in history and mystery. Today I still love books that are similar to these. I like books that contain history, adventure and mystery. This book series impacted the theme of books I still enjoy to this day.

    High School English
High school English introduced me to a handful of classic literature I actually enjoyed. I really enjoyed "Lord Of The Flies". I remember being the first person in class to realize that Piggy was in trouble. I was introduced to Virginia Woolf, senior year. I really enjoyed reading her novels, even though they were not always the easiest books to get through.

    I work out?
Entering college was scary, exciting and fun. It's a new chapter in your life to expand your knowledge of the world. Upon entering college, I began working out! Learning how to work out exposed me to new "lingo". While investing more time into the health world, I learned different work outs, and equipment.

    Tutoring
In college (the first time around) I tutored at the Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy. During this time I worked on reading skills, with a wonderful second grader. We spent an entire year doing different activities to promote reading. This experience really opened my eyes to planning and getting creative with different literacy games!

Reading turns from work to hobby
After my first degree, I quickly learned I LOVE reading! It is incredibly hard to enjoy reading while working towards a degree, because of all the reading required for class. After I graduated, my friends and I started sharing books, and talking about them. This was a huge step in my literacy timeline, because I was no longer reading solely for school, but for fun!
