Life Span Psychology Timeline

  • Prenatal Development

My mom ate healthy, took pre-natal vitamins, and had regular doctor visits. However she became very ill and had her gallbladder removed when she was 3 months pregnant and her digestive symptoms disappeared. After having her gallbladdar removed, the pregnancy was uneventful.
  • Birth

Birth itself was uneventful butI was born without a diaphragmn and even though some ultrasound pictures showed it, no doctor actually saw it. I stayed in the NICU for 7 weeks and a synthetic diaphragm was surgically placed.
  • Period: to

    First 2 Years

Biosocial: When I was 2, my brain weighed 75% of its adult weight. I learned to walk and talk late, I was about 18 months old when I talked. A physical therapist said that this delay in walking was likely due to the fact that I was an only child and they tend to walk later because parents do everything for them. Cognitively I did talk at the age that I was supposed to. When I was a bit older, I tended to doubt myself and was really shy.
  • Period: to

    Early Childhood

I enrolled in preschool when I was 3. I had a well developed vocabulary and tended to talk about very sophisticated things for my age. I was gaining more motor skills but had some balance issues and later found out I needed glasses. I liked to try to do things for myself and my parents let me, although I was sometimes criticized if I made my bed for example and my mom thought it was messy. I was allowed to try, but someone would usually "correct" me.
  • Period: to

    Middle Childhood

Biosocial: I was pretty healthy until I was 11 and started having various health issues. It was around 11 that I began to show signs of asthma, which was not formally diagnosed until I was 14. Cognitive: Learning to read was difficult for me but I worked hard and caught on and read at a high school level when I was 10. I started to get better at math. Psychosocial: I did feel inferior when I was having trouble with reading initially and when I was not good at math.
  • Period: to

    Adolesence

Biosocial: My health challenges continued into adolsence. Due to overcoming one particular health issue, I was able to get better nutrition and therefore gained necessary weight. Cognitive: I was doing very well academically, despite moving to another school. I learned to drive but was not initially good at it. Psychosocial: I was slowly making new friends at my school, I made friendships that I still have now unlike ones that I made before adolesence.
  • Period: to

    Emerging Adulthood

Biosical: I am currently in the emerging adulthood stage. Some health issues stil remain.
Cognitive: I am learning to think on a higher level and critically think because my college classes make me do that. I was able to critically think before but I am getting better at it.
Psychosocial: While I am in school, I do not desire to pursue a romantic relationship because I prefer to focus my energy on my studies. Once I am done, I will pursue a relationship.
  • Period: to

    Adolesence

  • Period: to

    Adulthood

Biosocial: I am not yet in the adulthood stage but I suspect that my health issues will still remain.
Cognitive: My cognitive abilities will likely decline as I reach the end of the adulthood stage. I may not be able to multitask as well as I do now. However, I plan on doing activities to prevent any cognitive decline if I can.
Psychosocial: I plan on being married and having a family during this stage. I also want to make more friends with people in my field of work.
  • Period: to

    Late Adulthood

Biosocial: I plan to maintain my healthy lifestyle. I will try to prevent the preventable conditions such as heart attacks or diabetes. My grandma has Alzheimers and Parkinsons so I may be at risk for those.
Cognitive: Just as my grandma does, I plan to attend continuing education classes. Exercise has been linked to slower cognitive decline so I plan to exercise if I am able.
Psychosocial: I may live to outlive my friends. I plan on attending social events.
  • Death

I predict that I will die on August 14, 2085, I will be 90 years old. My death will be a result of decline due to Parkinson's or Alzheimers, which runs in my family. I will have lived a long, relatively healthy life and have prevented illnesses that are preventable.
