    Birth of Muhammad

    He was born in the year 570 in the town of Mecca. HIs name comes from the meaning "to praise, to glorify". He was the first and the only son of Abd Allah.

    Muhammad become orphan

    When he was about five years old, his mom took him to a town called Yathrib, where he was told to stay with relatives and visit his father's grave. On the journey there, the mom becomes ill and dies, and his father's grandfather takes care of him.

    Muhammad and his teenage years

    As a teenage boy, he traveled often with Abu Talib, a merchant. He worked as a teenage boy.

    Muhammad marries and has family

    Muhammad marries a widow named Khadija bint Khawalayd, She was much older than he was. They have six children, but two of the sons die in infancy.

    Muhammad receives first revelation

    Mecca's materialism upset Muhammad, so he began making long retreats to mountain cave to meditate. He was visited by an overpowering presence and instructed to incite words of force that it had to be from God.

    Muhammad's First Message

    He starts sharing the God's words to his tribe, his people. These words become the foundation for Qu'ran. They were persecuted for their beliefs.

    Muhammad and his followers emigrate

    Muhammad and his followers, known as Muslims, leave Mecca and travel to Yathrib, the oasis town where his father was buried. Yathrib soon became known as Medina, the City of the Prophet.

    The Military Period

    They had to fight with the Meccans who were mad that they left. They would have multiple battles, including The Battle of the Trench in 627. Peace treaty is signed in March 628.

    The Conquest of Mecca

    Balance of power was shifting heavily to Muhammad. In January 630, they marched on Mecca and joined by tribe. They won.
  • 632

    Death of Muhammad

    After his last pilgrimage held in Mecca in 632, he returned to Medina. He died in June of 632, shortly after illness. He was buried in a mosque in Medina.
