North Korea Will Shut Nuclear Reactor
North Korea will cease operations at its plutonium producing nuclear reactor within weeks, U.S. envoy Christopher Hill said, after Kim Jong Il's government invited United Nations inspectors to return for the first time since 2002.
``This is an event we've been looking forward to for a long time,'' Hill told reporters today at a press briefing in Beijing. ``This was a very important first step.''

North Korea Test-Fires Missiles
North Korea test-fired a volley of missiles into the sea Friday and warned that it might stop disabling its nuclear facilities unless the United States drops its demands for more details about the North's nuclear arsenal.
The missile launch and the combative warning -- which accused the Bush administration of "persistently trying to cook up fictions" -- came one day after the North expelled 11 South Korean officials from an industrial park.

North Korea Attacks South’s President
North Korea unleashed a propaganda tirade against South Korea’s new president, Lee Myung-bak, on Tuesday, calling him a “traitor” and a “U.S. sycophant” and saying that his policies could spell disaster for international efforts to end the North’s nuclear weapons program.
The outburst was the first time in eight years the North had insulted a South Korean president, a clear sign that inter-Korean relations were chilling after a decade of reconciliation.

North Korea Will Restart Nuclear Reactor
North Korea upped the ante in the standoff over its nuclear program, confirming Friday that it is restoring a key atomic reactor and saying it no longer cares to be removed from Washington's terrorism blacklist.
Friday's announcement was the first North Korean confirmation that the regime is undoing the disarmament process begun in November 2007 as part of a nuclear deal hashed out during talks with China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the U.S.
