  • Berlin Airlift

    June 24, 1948 to May 11, 1949:
    Western Allies organised the Berlin airlift to carry supplies to the people in West Berlin.
    - First crisis of the Cold War involving Berlin when Soviet forces blocked Allied areas.

  • Berlin Crisis

    The Berlin Crisis took place from June 4 to November, 1961.
    Nikita Khrushchev had dissired for the western allies to leave West Berlin and proposed a peace treaty on Soviet terms. The Western allies did not want to give up their right of access to Berlin.Then all routes to get out of Western Berlinwere cut off, and troops were sent in. Eventually, the erlin wall was built around Berlin.

    John F. Kennedy became the first U.S. president to have a direct phone line to the Kremlin in Moscow.
