    When Katie was 6 years old she began taking piano lessons, and going to school. She loved both and found a fondness for playing piano at school and at home. She practiced often. In Erickson's fourth stage the psychological conflict is industry vs inferiority with the major question of "how can i be good" where she is learning the virtue of competence at important events like school.The outcome for her will most likely be that she can be good at music and that is helps with school.

    When Katie was 14 her mother began entering her into modeling competitions. She was still playing piano and began to teach herself to play guitar. She also joined a choir and sang in front of others on a weekly basis. In Erickson's fifth stage the psychological conflict is identity vs role confusion. The major question is who am I and the virtue is fidelity with the important event of social relationships. The outcome will most likely be that Katie is relating through performance.

    Katie is now 25 years old and has relocated to LA to pursue a singing career. She recently accepted a marriage proposal from her boyfriend that she lives with. This is Erickson's sixth stage where the psychological conflict is intimacy vs isolation where the major question is "will i be loved or will i be alone?" The virtue here is love, and event is romantic relationships. The outcome will be to bond with a partner in her field.
