    Charles Darwin was born in 1809, Shrewsbury, England, to parents Susana and Robert Darwin.

    Charles' School
    Charles Darwin went to Shrewsbury School For Boys when he was 9 years old. He had a great love for science and built a science lab in his shed when he was 13.

    Charles' University
    Charles Darwin went to Edinburgh University when he was 16 to train to become a doctor because his father wanted him to, as many members of his family were. Charles got queasy at the sight of blood and therefore went to Cambridge University to become a priest. Charles knew this wasn't the job for him and was undecided on what career to choose.

    Charles Darwin was still undecided on his career but got a letter. This letter changed his life forever. It was an invitation to be the naturalist on the HMS Beagle's voyage, led by Captain Fitz-Roy. Charles knew this was his dream job and persuaded his father to let him go on the trip.

    The Journey

    The voyage lasted 5 whole years and on they way they discovered many unknown animals, plants and Islands. But the most important discovery he made was the theory of evolution by natural selection. He noticed some finches beaks were different, he realised that one had a short and stubby beak for cracking nuts and the other one, a sharp beak for catching bugs. That is how he discovered the theory of evolution.

    Charles Darwin arrived home in 1836. He kept his ideas to himself because he was afraid that his ideas on the theory of evolution would get criticised just like his grandfather.
