    This was a day where Peru got to claim their independence. San Martin was considered the ¨Protector of Peru,¨ because of everything he did to help. He helped free their slaves, stabilize the economy, and giving freedom to Peruvian Indians.

    Later, he found out that his wife, María de los Remedios de Escalada, was sick and he had to hurry home to Argentina to see her, but she died before he got to her. He decided that he and his daughter would be better off somewhere else so he took her to France.
