    John Dewey's Education
    John dewey studied philosophy from the University of Vermont and graduated second in his class in 1879. He then started assisting a professor at the University of Michigan after recieving his PhD in Philosophy.     After leaving University of Michigan in 1888 a book, called 'Principles of Psychology' by William James, caught Dewey's attention which made him become fascinated with experimental philosophy. Dewey started work right away with his colleagues. In 1894 the University Elementary School was Deweys new experiment to try out his theories.

    John Dewey's Breakthrough
    After Dewey studied child philosophy his University Elementary School experiment was finally ready to be put to the test at University of Chicago. With the help from his wife he started a school in Hyde Park which ranged from K-12 grades. In 1896 his theory of experiential learning broke through and was later announced as functional psychology. Dewey published a book all about his findings called 'The School and Society: Being Three Lectures' which provided a base to new concepts and ideas.

    John Dewey Extracurricular
    After being let go by Chicago University Dewey moved himself and his family out to the east coast to begin more work. While at Columbia University in 1916 he wrote 'Democracy and Education: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Education', which further explained his findings in the Elementary University experiment. In 1919 Dewey traveled to China and spent some time there giving lectures on his concepts and ideas about philosophy, later returning in 1921.

    John Dewey's Influence
    After Dewey's return in 1921 back to the states he began publishing and eventually his views were spread worldwide. Dewey retired in 1930 from Columbia University but he still kept his work up while he stayed teaching courses here and there until 1937. John dewey wrote 40 books over the span of his lifetime but he received honorary degrees in 1946 and 1951 from different Universities as well as a Copernicus Citation in 1943.

    John Dewey's End
    He is still considered one of the "most influential" philosophers of education. There is an elementary school names after him, John Dewey Elementary, as well as readings and ideas still kept alive today in classes. He was interesting in the way he thought differently about being taught. Many disagreed but he stayed with his concept and it is more than a theory today. June 1, 1952 John Dewey died in his apartment located in New York from pneumonia. He lays to rest at the University of Vermont
