Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart
The book is a satirical allegory. Considered a jewel of baroque literature, it is one of the author's most important works. The book remains the most widely read work of older Czech literature.
The world is portrayed as a city which resembles a labyrinth, entered by a pilgrim. The city has The Gate of Entering, and The Gate of Separation; six main streets which represent the six classes of the world; The Castle of Fortune in its middle; and The Common Square. -
The Gate of Languages
8000 words are set in 1000 sentences. A simplified version for beginners was published under the name Vestibulus in 1932. Janua was also adapted for the stage in 1953–54 and published in Sárospatak under the name Schola ludus seu encyclopaedia viva. It is divided into eight plays and it takes place in Alexandria under Ptolemaeus Philadelphus. The main characters of the advisors from different ages are Plato, Eratosthenes, Apollonius of Rhodes, Plinius and Socrates. -
