  • Jane's Birth

    Jane Goodall is born in London, England. As a child her father took her to the London Zoo and gives her a chimpanzee toy in honor of a new born chimpanzee. This toy is what inspired her and got her to start working with chimpanzees'
  • Behavior of chimpanzees' in the beginning

    In the beginning of Jane Goodall's observations the chimpanzees' would run away and be very scared of Jane. Through out her observations and with time the chimpanzees' started to get close and accept Jane.
  • Chimpanzees' behavior

    It was said that chimpanzees' where vegetarian, but due to Jane Goodall's research and observations chimpanzees' also eat meat. Jane Goodall was recording the chimpanzees' behavior when she saw them eating meat, the chimpanzees' had killed the animal itself. So this was a big discovery.
  • Chimpanzees' creating tools

    Jane observes two chimpanzees' (David Greybeard and Goliath) making their own tools to get food. They would use the tools to extract termites from their mounds. The chimpanzees would take a thin branch and take off the leaves, when that was done they would stick it into a whole and get all the termites out, so they would have food
  • Jane's work becomes world known

    Jane's work becomes widely know and in 1962 she is accepted at Cambridge University as a Ph.D candidate
  • Jane Goodall gets sponsor

    National Geographic decides to sponsor Jane, they send photographer and filmmaker Hugo Van Lawick to document about Jane's life in Gombe. He helps her publish her first article in National Geographic's . The article was called "My life among wild chimpanzees"

    While in Gombe Jane earns her Ph.D in ethology (this is the study in animals behavior)
  • Jane Goodall's work as an activist

    Jane Goodall goes to a scientific conference in Chicago. She tells all the scientists about her concern for the chimpanzees' and how people need to not kill and destroy the chimpanzees' habitat as they are and will get more distinct
  • Roots and shoots

    A group of Tanzanian students work together with Jane Goodall to create the Roots and Shoots program. This is a program that helps educate youth know what to do and how to treat the environment globally
  • Jane Goodall's institute's work

    Jane creates the Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation. One of the things the instate works with is; the Lake Tanganyika Reforestation and Education project is founded. This program helps communities near the Lake Tanganyika start sustainable agriculture, micro-finance initiatives and conservation education so that local habitats and animal species are protected

    Jane gets appointed to serve as a United Nations Messenger of Peace by United Nations Secretary-general Kofi Annan

    During a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London, Jane is made Dame of the British Empire
