    Plague breaks out
    The first outbreak of plague (the Plague of Justinian) was an early form of the bubonic plague which hit in Rome in 541.
    The symptoms were similar to that of the 14th Century plague of swollen lymph nodes and necrosis of the hands. It killed 10,000 people a day.

    The Polynesians were a group of people who there civilisation spred over a huge area Pacific Ocean between 700 and 1756. Polynesians settled thousands of islands in the Pacific arcoss an area called the "Polynesian Triangle".

    Jayavarman V passed away
    Jayavarman V passed away in 1000 and a new king was sought. It became a power struggle between Jayaviravavman and Suryavarman I. The first prince won and took the throne in 1002 but was constantly challenged by the losing prince who eventually overthew him in 1010. This period of civil war between the two princes resulted in no significant monuments being built.

    Rapanui's deforestation starts
    Rapanui (later renamed as Easter Island) is a tiny island in the South Pacific Ocean. All over the tiny island are enormous statues called Moai which are up to 33 feet high. The rapid construction of the Moai caused the palm tree forest to be cut down to house the people building the Moai into place. This lead to the disappearance of 18 plant species, so all the birds left and without trees the people couldn't build canoes to fish and ended up starving to death.

    Edward the Confessor
    Edward the Confessor became king after his half brother Hardicanute died during a drinking party. Edward became his successor and he became king in 1042 but was crowned at the cathedral of Winchester on April 1043.

    William of Normandy who later became known as William the Conqueror met with Edward the Confessor in 1051 and upon Edwards death, William claimed Edward had promised him his throne. Because no one witnessed this William attacked the King Hardold at the battle of Hastings and gained control over England to become the King.

    Minamoto Clan seize power
    Minamoto clan whose name mean "original town" was a domanant clan of the Heian period and they are the clan that all shogun have claimed descent. The Kamukura Shogunate was established by the Minamoto clan, who seized power from the Taira clan from 1185-1336.

    The Mongol Empire grew out of a land that streches from morden day Kazakhstan to China. Summers are very shortand hot, and winters are long and very cold. The people were migrants who moved with their horses, cattle and sheep, also with seasonal food sources.

    Genghis Khan dies
    Genghis Khan was the Monyol leader who created an empire that went from the coast of China, west to Aral Sea. He dies on August 18, 1227 during a fighting with the Chinese kingdom of Xi Xia, but it was thought that his death was actuallu due to internal injuries from a previous fall from a horse.

    Second invasion of Japan fails
    After a previous failed attempt on Japan by the Mongol fleet, a new much larger fleet was sent from Korea and another from China, where they joinrd up near Hakat Bay. The two fleets consisted of 4,400 vessels and 140,000 soldiers but the invasion failed because a massive typoon hit. Half the men drowned and most of the other half hunted and killed by the Samurai soldiers.

    The Ottoman Empire went for over 600 years, from the middle ages to the stat of the 20th century. The empire began in the place known today as Anatolia, in the Asian part of modern day.

    The Blach Death In Asia, Europe and Africa.

    During this time the 14th century, a pandemic spread across Asia, Europe and Africa. It was called the Black Death. People think that the Europe introduced it to Europe in 1347. They were returning home from the East, where the pandemic is to have started. Within three years it had spread through Eurpope, Asia and north of Africa. There was lack of medical knowledge, filthy living conditions helped the disease spread very quickly.

    Plague sweeps through Europe.
    The black death hit Europe in full force in 1348, with minimum of one in three people dying from it and one in two people in Mediterranean Europe. Betwwen 1347 and 1351 at least one third of Europe, nealry all of France, Germany, Southern England and the whole of British Isles. By the end of 1351 Russia was also taken by the plague.

    For almost a decade the first major Ottoman effort to capture Constantinople occured. The Byzantine capital sustained a very severe siege. The city's civillian population was devestated by famine and plague and a large population fled Constantinople.

    Leonardo da Vinci was born April 15 1452 in Vinci, Italy. He was born an illegitimate child of a respected man and a peasant girl named Caterina Leonardo was firstly raised by his grandparents and later by his father, Ser Piero da Vinci and his fathers wife.

    Christopher Columbus discovers the Caribbean
    During his first voyage in 1492, Christopher Columbus had intended to reach Japan to secure trade with Asia in the spice trade. Instead he landed in the Bahamas. Over his next three voyagers he visited Antilles, Venezuela, Cuba and Central America and clamied them for Spanish Empire.

    The Spanish age of exploration was motivated by a passion for new territory, wealth and trading partners. Over time, the achievement of those things made Spain to become more powerful than Europe. People also wanted those who worshipped other Gods than the Christian God they came across there Christianity.

    Italy in an attempt to weaken his enemy, the King of Naples, Ludovico invites the French to invade Italy, granting them free passage through Milan. Though this invasion fails, the French return in 1499, turning on Ludovico and taking Milan, and opening an era of foreign competition for Italian land.

    Smallpox reachers the Inca Empire
    The Smallpox epidemic started in Hispaniola in 1518, to spread to Mexico in 1520, then through Colombia and Venezuela. Hearing of this Huayna Capac performed religious rituals, but nothing worked and when he caught the disease and died the Incas knew everything was doomed. Smallpox killed more than 200,000 people.

    After Pope Clement VII refuses to grant the imperial army a ransom, it attacks the city of Rome, taking the city in just over twelve hours. The sack of Rome symbolizes the downfall of Renaissance Italy, much of which subjugated to Imperial, Spanish rule by the settlement of Bologna in 1530.
  • The Sakuko period began

    The Sakuko period began
    Sakuko which in Japanese means "country in chain" or "lock up of country" was the policy of Japan. This meant that no one could enter or leave Japan or the penalty was death. The policy or law was made by Tokugawa Shogunate and stayed in effect until 1853 until Commodore Mathew Perry of the U.s navy along with four warships, demanded that Japan start to treade with the West. He later returned with seven ships and forced the Shogun to sign a "treaty of Peace".

    The revolt began in March 1821 when Alexandros Ypsilantis crossed the Prut River. He was defeated by the Turks but on March 25 1821 sporadic revolts against Turkish rule broke out in Greece and several islands. A rebellion of Greeks within the Ottoman Empire resulted in the establishment of an independent kingdom of Greece.

    Treaty of Waitangi
    The treaty of Waitangi is a treaty that signed in February 1840 by the British government and the Maori chiefs of New Zealand. The treaty saw that the Maori's had ownership of their lands and gave the Maori's the same rights as British people. For the British it gave them the right to govern the country.

    Erik the Red banished from Iceland
    Erik the red (called this because of his red hair) was exiled from Iceland in 985 after his fiery temperament into a fight with his two neighnours which ended in him murdering them. He decided to explore west of Iceland and he discovered a beautiful land he later named Greenland.

    Jayavarman II became King of Canbodia and unified a fighting country under one ruler. He was recognised as the founder of the Khmer Empire which ruled most of Southeast Asia for more than 600 years. His reing has now been found by historians to be as for back to 770-835
