  • First World Climate Conference

    Climate change was officially recognised as a serious problem needing an international response when evidence of increasing carbon dioxide levels established.
  • IPCC established

    Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Chang (IPCC) establshied by Unired Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorologists Organization. It is a body comprising of over 2000 scientists, who will assess state of knowledge on climate change on regular intervals.
  • The Kyoto Protocol

    The Kyoto Protocol was signed by 160 nations at the third UNFCCC conference.the protocol calls for the first ever legally binding commitments to reduce carbondioxide and 5 other greenhouse gases.
  • Promoting use of renewable sources of energy

    The importance of introducing and promoting renewable sources of energy like wind energy, solar energy, tidal energy etc. was recognised. Discussions on the typed of energy and how to implement methods to make them available took place.

    Increase in global warming led to faster melting of ice which led to increase in sea level and has flooded the coastal regions across the globe. Environmentalists discuss on the issue of global warming and measures to control it.
