  • Sepoy Rebelling

    Sepoy Rebelling
    Sepoy fought in the British army; however, Muslim sepoys did not eat pork, and Hindu sepoys did not eat beef. In order to use a new type of British rifle, they would come in contact with pork and beef fat. They were punished for not using the rifle and ended up revolting. As a resutl they killed many civilians and soldiers.
  • Self-Strengthening Movement

    Self-Strengthening Movement
    Reformers launched the "self-strengthening movement." They imported Western technology, setting up factories to make modern weapons.
  • Anglo-Zulu War

    Famous for the bloody battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, the Anglo-Zulu War saw over 15,000 British troopy invade the independent nation of Zululand in present-day South Africa.
  • The Berlin Conference

    Fourteen countries were represented by a plethora of ambassadors whe the conference opended in Berlin. By 1914, the conference participants had fully divided Africa amony themselves into fifty countries.

    The first Indian nationalist organization, the Indian National Congress, was founded by English-speaking Indians, many of who were Hindu.
  • The Boxer Rebellion

    The Boxer Rebellion
    A group of Chinese had formed a secret society, the Righteous Harmonious Fists. Their goal was to drive out the "foreign devils" who were polluting the land with their un-Chinese ways, strange building, machines, and telegraphy lines.
  • Pancho Villa

    Pancho Villa
    Francisco "Pancho" Villa led a band of rebels who suported Madero's ideas. They disgraced Diaz's government by capturing the city of Juarez.
