Me

How I am who I am

  • It's my birthday!!

    It's my birthday!!
This is the day that my mom and dad's lives forever changed. I am the oldest of their two daughters. I feel honored to be the one that taught my parents everything they know about parenting!!
  • I'm a Christian!!

    I'm a Christian!!
I was born and raised in the Methodist church. Thinking back on my childhood, from what I can remember, I was around the age of 5 when I asked Jesus into my life. This monumental moment occurred when the preacher asked if there was anyone that would like to come forward and profess their faith and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. And yes, my little 5 year old self, raised her hand and marched on down to the front.
  • Celebrating Holidays!!

    Celebrating Holidays!!
Growing up my family has always celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is a time where extended family gets together usually at a grandparents house. Our celebrations always include a feast, made up of Turkey, dressing, and all the fixings. As I've gotten older, I cherish those moments more and more and understand the importance of being around family.
  • Sports!!

    Sports!!
This is the year that I began to participate in sports, such as cheerleader, basketball, and golf. I'm a competitor and what some would call a sore loser. I don't consider myself a sore loser, I just love to WIN!! Sports has trickled down to my daughters and grandchildren.
  • My high school sweetheart

    My high school sweetheart
Little did we know that when he moved to my high school his senior year that we would end up married years later. I had it all planned out in my head, from the moment that I sat beside him, in typing class, the first day of school that year. I didn't share my plan with him at that time, but I think eventually he figured it out!!
  • My senior year!!

    My senior year!!
This was a big year for me. Not only was I graduating from high school, but I also gave birth to my first daughter. Back in the day, it was frowned upon to have a child out of wedlock. That didn't stop me from loving her and finishing my senior year. That year taught me that this is MY life and who cares if I'm not what some consider "traditional". It also taught me to not be selfish and to give 100% effort so that I can provide for my new little family!!
  • My wedding!!

    My wedding!!
First comes love, then comes baby, then comes marriage!! Again, I know, not traditional. However, my wedding was traditional. Bride, Groom, daddy gave bride away, reception to follow, lots of family, all the events that made up that special day. My husband had to push me in a wheelbarrow from the church to where the groomsmen parked our car; a long long distance. The pushing in the wheelbarrow has became part of our "culture" at weddings.
  • Funeral!!

    Funeral!!
Such a sad time for me with the loss of my granny (great grandmother). The funeral was held at a Pentecostal Church. A tribute honoring my granny was read by the pastor. Many tears were shed that day as we walked past my granny and viewed her for the last time. We also had a graveside service to honor her. Fortunately I had not been to many funerals before then to know if it's traditional or not.
  • Grandbabies!!!

    Grandbabies!!!
Grandbabies, what more can one say? Actually i could go on and on about my grandchildren. On March 7, 2014 I became a Gammy. Oh my heavens, my heart was so full of love. This was a whole new experience for me. I currently, 2017, have 3 handsome grandsons. They are my life, and they make everything in the past seem so small compared to the importance that these grandsons have in my life. Everything I do, I do for them. Remember this is MY life, MY culture, MY grandbabies!!
  • Education!!

    Education!!
Having an education is priceless. I've always told my daughters "Get your education so that you can support yourself always and never have to depend on anyone else". In December 2017, two of my oldest daughters will be graduating from WTAMU; my youngest is a Junior in high school. Also, August 2017 is when I began to pursue my Masters in Guidance and Counseling. Back in 1991 I realized the importance of education with the birth of my daughter.
