Eastern State Penitentiary the first State pen was built. The state prison is ran by the state. State prisons just like Federal prisons have different levels from high maximum security to medium security done to low security. -
First federal prison
First and largest high security federal prison was Leavenworh Which is located in Kansas. In 2005 it became a medium security facility. President Hoover in 1930 signed a bill stating permission for federal prison systems to estabish facilities for prisoners. -
From 1925 to 1995
The chart was a study made in 2001 of the rate from 1925 to 1995 of how the increase of inmates made the prisons and jail increase. -
Alcatraz opened in 1934 to March 21, 1963
history
Most secure federal prison in the US until the day it closed in 1963. I t was the highest security facility until the the day it closed. Today the prison is a museam and people are able to go in and tour how the prison.
