First Kinetoscope
Thomas Edison and W.K Dickson invented a device which could view images through a peephole. This allowed theaters to be built so people could view these short films using the Kinetoscope. With the Kinetoscope, only one person at time could view the film. -
First Light
Peter Cooper Hewitt first invented the mercury lamp which was used in film to be able to shoot inside without sunlight. The light made the black and white film portray little differences of the lighting. For the difference in lighting to be shown drastically, lots of lamps had to be used. -

In 1923, the Warner Brothers was first established. Founded by the four founding brothers were, Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner. Their company thrived in one of the most successful motion pictures, gaining notice from all around the world. -
First Guid lines
In 1930, the Production code was released and adopted by many industries. This code stated the guid lines in which specified what could be filmed and acceptable in movies. It is the also known as the Hays code. -
Disney's Fame
During the 1940's, the request for more animated films increased. Due to the great success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, they were able to add more animated films like Pinocchio. -

The 1950's was the era of the Cold War, which was influenced into films. The theme of war and killing the evil began to show. It portrayed lots of action and horror. -

During the 1960's, the trend of filming in other countries was very popular in Hollywood. Film crews began using facilities abroad. Thy started to film in foreign countries. -

During the 1970's directors and film makers began to express more of their ideas and insights on films. Films were more creative and also began to show more explicit content such as realistic bloody deaths. -

During the 1980's people began to view movies in their homes using VCRs.Lots of films were being sold and rented for home viewing. This added a lot of money to the film industry. -
Special Effects
During the 1990's, movies began to spend more money on actors and film production as film began to become more and more popular. High tech, digital special effects, and CGI's were being used more in movies. -
Documentary Films
Documentary Films began to gain notice as a commercial genre. Films such as March of the Penguins received lots of popularity. The technology to film documentaries became very innovated.
