  • First Opening Night

    The Seven Sisters opened in 1860 and was the first ever musical performed on Broadway.
  • The Black Crook

    Premiered in 1866, is thought by many to be the first real Broadway musical.
  • Creation of Times Square

    Long Acre Square renamed Times Square, after THE NEW YORK TIMES builds its new office tower on 42nd Street and Broadway. George M. Cohan makes his solo Broadway debut as star and composer of "Little Johnny Jones"; songs include "Give My Regards to Broadway." Times Square subway station opens. The IRT subway line brings New Yorkers rapid transit and access to the new theater district.
  • Follies

    Flo Ziegfeld's lavish production would become a Broadway staple for many years to come.
  • The Golden Age

    Rodgers and Hammerstein's first show, Oklahoma, was produced. The duo would go on to write some of the most beloved Broadway Musicals in history, including Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music.
