  • Mills v. Board of Education of the District of Columbia

    Mills fought for 7 students because they were denied placement based off of allegations without due process. The board of education claimed they could afford to teach students based off of financial strains. Instead of ask for help or try to teach students they turned those students away Court Decision- The school board must provide education for all students no matter their disabilities.

  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    PARC – Don’t base there teachable educational years on mental age of 5 but physical age of 21 giving students more of a chance for resources and growth.
    Commonwealth- Stated schools to exclude children who had not reached a “mental age of five years” by the time they should be enrolling in first grade.
    The court- Agreed with PARC not to deny any child up to age 21 admission to a public school program

  • Smith v. Robinson

    The parents of a child with cerebral palsy was denied access to the special education classroom because of his cerebral palsy disability.
    School- Didn’t want to teach student with cerebral palsy
    Students’ parents- fought for his right to learn and not be seen as a handicap.
    Court- They have to teach the child and not look at the student for his handicap.
