    In the 1940's, a silkscreen printer named Forest P. Gill, invented an adhesive that would allow vinyl and paper prints to stick onto automobiles. These were called bumber stickers. Originally they were used to advertise tourist attractions. Now their purpose ranges from political views and eating habits to favourite bands and cartoon characters.

    Street art began to grow in popularity in the 1980's along with the hip hop and punk scene. One notable artist is Banksy, who began to produce art in the 1980's and continues to do so today. His works are public statements of political and social issues and continue to incite curiousity.

    MTV, or Music Television, was created in 1981 to show music videos of upcoming artists. Today, MTV continues to play music but has broadened its range to reality tv and other shows aimed at adolescents and young adults.

    Zines are small, artistic booklets or mini magazines which make statements about social issues and the way the world works. Zines became popular in the 1990's along side the West Coast punk movement. They were a huge factor in the rise of the Riot Grrrl feminist movement which confronted sexism, body image and identity crisis, allowing women to communicate about these issues through zines and public meetings.

    The IPhone was released in 2007 as one of the first cellular phones to use a touch screen. This, along with other features included a built in camera, internet access, and downloadable apps made the IPhone a staple in pop culture. Today, it remains a necessity for the general public and an incredible tool to use how we wish.
