Federation and the White Australian policy
1901: In 1901 6 colonies federated becoming the CommonWealth of the 6 states and from them the federal government was elected to pursue matters that affected the whole of the Nation. The 6 colonies had troubles that if one of the colonies were attacked the railways were destroyed and they would be slowed, but they remained stubborn and didn't let other races come to help and populate. -

In 1901 the White Australia Policy started. This dream tore families apart but also threatened Australia Economy. This all started on May the 1st when the soon to be king of England came to Australia, he, crowed by 500000, moves towards the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, which is where the first Federal Parliament opened a country unlike others, Australia. With women already having the right to vote, Barton hoped to create the most advanced and democratic place. -

The founders of Australia felt threatened, so the whole plan was for one race, and one race only. This plan, according to the Commonwealth, needed people that weren't white to be excluded. Aborigines, were thought to be prehistoric relics that were kept alive by luck. Also, Asians were thought to be inferior. 30000 chinese people were thought to be happy until the 'White Australian Policy'. Australia had only 2% of 3.5 million black people but they were thought to be 'a "big" problem'. -

On the 7th of August, 1901, their task was to debate the immigration restriction bill. Pearson delivers a very important speech saying that one day the black and the yellow, us, people will no longer be under tutelage, they will become independent and self-governing, he then says that if we aren't careful we will be overrun by China, Africa, India and all other black races.
