  • Competence vs Performance

    Competence vs Performance
When referring to knowing what a language means and grasping its properties is called competence. Whereas performance means its use during real time and how it diverges from competences. An example of this would be being drunk or having a brain injury. Both can look like the same thing, but can also be two different things. Scholz, Barbara C., et al. “Philosophy of Linguistics.” Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Stanford University, 21 Sept. 2011, plato.stanford.edu/entries/linguistics/.
  • Generative Grammer

    Generative Grammer
With the belief of Generative grammar that most kids despite intelligence level acquire the mastery of language to the same degree. This shows that there are some unlearned features of languages that assist in other languages. That in Chomsky's view that natural language only has syntax. Scholz, Barbara C., et al. “Philosophy of Linguistics.” Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Stanford University, 21 Sept. 2011, plato.stanford.edu/entries/linguistics/.
  • E- language vs I-language

    E- language vs I-language
Chomsky created the E-language and I-language. E-language, known as extensional language, is language if it is the set of all the linguistic expressions. I-language, intentional language, is if language is a set of rules that can create a set of linguistic expressions. Which I-language would be more your internal thoughts, whereas the e-language is more the out put of the thoughts themselves.
