    Bastille is under assault and destroyed by Parisian mobs marking the beginning of the French Revolution.

    Napoleon defeats Royalist forces and the British navy in the port of Toulon marking the start of a legacy.

    Napoleon Bonaparte is made commander and chief of the French army. Napoleon marries Josephine de Beauharnais.

    Napoleon defeats the Austrian forces gaining territory.
  • 1798-1799:

    1798-1799:
    Napoleon invades Africa with the intent of conquering Egypt. He later abandoned his army while exiting due to continuous failures in his campaign.

    Napoleon Forms a coup known as the “ coup d’état of 18 Brumaire in Saint-Cloud” undermining and overthrowing the French government making way for his rise to power. It also is also viewed as the end of the revolution.

    In June Napoleon is named the first consul of the new consulate, Later in June, he marched across the Alps to defeat the Austrian army in the Battle of Marengo.
  • 1800–1802:

    1800–1802:
    Napoleon uses the current peace to attempt and restore France. He granted amnesties to exiled nobles and aristocrats as well as to establish connections with the catholic church in the Concordat of 1801. Doing this mended the deepest wounds of the French revolution.

    Napoleon sends an army to establish control in the west indies. Later that year he becomes First Consul for life and legalizes the slave trade in colonies hoping this will advance his goal of colonies in North America.

    Due to lack of money and sea power napoleon abandons his goal of north American colonies selling the Louisiana territories to the Americans

    Napoleon’s French Civil Code has activated across all of France including its territories this code abolished the feudal system and defined the laws of equality, property, and the priority of law and equality.

    The previous government known as the consulate is reformed into an empire with Napoleon as its emperor.

    Napoleon plans on invading England but later denied when the British naval fleet destroyed the French naval fleet.

    Napoleon gets control over an empire that owns most of Europe by signing the Treaties of Tilsit; also divorces Josephine because she couldn’t make an heir. Instead, he married Marie-Louise of Austria, and together they were able to produce an heir.

    After Russia left the Continental System, Napoleon decided to invade Russia which led to the bloodiest battle Napoleon has fought in. This battle was near Moscow, and a week into the battle Moscow fell and was set on fire.

    After that, the French army had to retreat due to the winter and the lack of supplies; Napoleon decided to abandon his army and return to Paris. Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Sweden then defeat Napoleon’s forces, and Napoleon is banished from the throne.

    Napoleon regains the throne, but at the Battle of Waterloo Napoleon and his army are defeated. This results in his second banishment from the throne; he is banished to Saint Helena.
