    The Tennis Court Oath was a dramatic act of defiance by the representatives of the underprivileged classes of the French Nation (aka the Third Estate). The members of the Third Estate vowed "not to separate and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established" This was a very important event and process in the French Revolution
  • Storming of the Bastille occurs

    Storming of the Bastille occurs
    The fall of the Bastille was the flash point of the French Revolution. The Bastille was a medieval armory, fortress, and political prison. At the time of the storming, the prison only contained seven inmates but it was seen by the revolutionaries as a symbol of the monarchy's abuse of power. After the violence that was caused, nobles, and even regular people started to flee the country as emigrants.

    National Assembly issues Declaration of the Rights of Man
    The National Assembly issued a character of liberties, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and citizen. This declared rights to liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression. In addition to all of these rights, the charter also states that all males should be treated equally, and nobody could be imprisoned without due process. The First and Second Estate would overrule the Third Estate but after the Declaration was issued, the Third Estate wasn't overruled as much.

    With the soaring food prices, the women were furious, hungry, and angry. Hundreds of women marched to the Kings palace in Versailles where it was rumored that he was storing food and grain. They demand that the king return to Paris with them and the King agrees. And so the royal family return to Paris, bringing cart and cart filled with grain in them. This was a chaotic time for everyone.

    The royal family is arrested at their attempts to flee their country. They attempted to flee France in order to avoid retribution from the revolutionaries. This was a major event that occurred during the French Revolution because it led to the eventual deaths of both Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

    The Parisian mob attacks the palace and takes Louis XIV prisoner. The people of Paris and the Republican soldiers attacked the Tuileries (Louis XIV's official residence and home of the Legislative Assembly). The people of Paris and the soldiers wanted to depose the king, Louis XIV and also wanted to abolish the monarchy. Louis XIV was now on "house arrest" since the Assembly had all of a sudden decided to cut the spending of the royal household to 25 million livres.

    After France declared war on Austria, Austria responded with a coordinated invasion. France declared war on Austria because they believed that war would unify the country and they also had a desire to spread the ideas of the Revolution to all of Europe. Between the war, the French armies lacked organization and discipline, and many noble officers had emigrated. So France did not succeed at the beginning of the war but they progressively got better as the war went on and eventually succeeded.

    Louis XVI was a significant figure historically because he basically symbolized everything that was wrong with and about the ancient regime. Louis XVI lived in a time where the nation was going through a huge transition from where nobles were greater than peasants, to the nobles and the peasants becoming equal and treated as one. This is important because the people finally got to kill ff the person they believed was the cause of disease, hunger, and murder between the people.

    The reign of terror lasted for a pretty long time and its purpose was to purge France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders.The Reign of Terror was a phase in the French Revolution and it began with the overthrow of the Girondins. And also at the time French people who did not support the revolution were executed at the guillotine. It was sort of a dark time for the people of France and darkened Paris and the provinces.
  • French armies are victorious

    French armies are victorious
    Finally, France became successful and defeated all of their opponents. Before, the French armies were no very well organized and they were now very strong and supported but they stepped up their game once they started battling in more and more wars. This helped the French nation to gain more independence and become strongest as one.
