    Governent was about to go bankrupt because they had poor harvest. The National Assembly was formed.

    People from Paris storm Bastille and the French Revolution began

    Declaration of the Rights of the Man and the Citizen
    The National Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Man and the Citizen. They were guaranteed liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression rights to all people.

    The peasants were fearful that nobles were hiring outlaws to terrorize them so the peasants rioted. They stormed the Versailles and they demanded that Louis and Antoinette come to Paris.

    The National Assembly broke up so the Legislative Assembly took over. The King had no power and they started a constitutional monarchy.

    The Revolutionary leaders turn on each other and three factions in the Legislative Assembly form. These are the Radicals, Moderates, and Conservatives.

    Prussia and Austria supported Louis XVI but they sent troops to Paris.

    Revolution leader Maximillen Robespiere sets out to gather power into his hands. He becomes leader of Commitee of Public Safety. They decide who should be considered an enemy of republic

    Robospierre was governing France as a dictator. The peiod was known as the Reign of Terror. Approximately 3,000 were executed in Paris and as many as 40,000 were killed together.

    Mary Antoinette is executed. The Revolutionary courts declare death sentences on those who challenge Robospierre.

    The National Committe turn on Robospierre. They claim that he is a Tyrant and is executed on July 28.

    Moderates began to draft new constitution. Two house legislature and an executed body of five men, known as the Directory. Napolean Boriapaite is chosen to lead French armies.
